I just called Kingfisher today. They as well allow a third party card from an Indian friend/relative. They just require the front/back copy of the card to be with the passenger.

Yes, a few members posted similar problems a few post above yours, they also posted solutions.

Try using Expedia.co.in (about Rs 75 extra) or cleartrip.com (up to Rs400 extra).

Wanted to add that I believe Kingfisher actually accepts American Express as a foreign credit card, but not foreign Visa or Mastercard.

1 advantage to using your foreign credit card

Most US VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards automatically include travel insurance. Some include delayed flight and lost luggage; most include only accident (injury & specialist hospitalization in another country) and death benefits (& repatriation).

You should contact your provider before arrival or check online and make your relatives/friends/lawyer aware of this. I know this is not the most pleasant of topics, but ____ happens.

hello Jorge, it has been a long time. Do love your pictures. Now I never had any trouble with my credit cards in India for flight payments.

Could someone please clear this up for me ... am I able to pay using a debit rather than credit card when booking internal flights with an Indian airline? Not really a problem if I can't, just curious.

Also, I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be but just to confirm - I assume it'll work out cheaper for me to book internal flights myself rather than through a company like Dialaflight? Because they quoted me £329 return (London-Mumbai, Delhi-London) without two internal flights included, but when they added the two flights it shot up to £468, which seems very steep. Should I look around myself for these two flights? (And is £329 a reasonable price?).

Thanks!

So, I have an Amercian Express credit card, and was wondering if most hotels/upscale shops would accept it. Any shops in Delhi that do accept it? I really don't wish to carry a lot of cash around!
Thanks

A debit card is all I have. it's seen asa credit card, except you use just your money. No problems when I've tried to use it, for airlines , shopping whatever, as long as it has the logo on it. Visa M/C whatever. Amex seems to be a bit more restricted. but Visa and Mastercard are no probs.

Most 4/5 star hotels accept it, and so do the more upscale restaurants and bars. Shops even. Don't be surprised if they ask you for a bit extra to cover Amex (about 1%) - amex charges merchants more...

This just rolled into my inbox from a kind soul:

To make online shopping safer, the RBI has made it mandatory, for all online transactions to have an extra level of authentication from August 1, 2009 onwards.

The 'extra' level of security is a password that you will have to enter after entering your credit/debit card details while making online payments. You will require this password for transacting on any website in India.
I have not yet verified. Since in the US such requirements are not mandatory, I wonder how many people need to make modifications to the CC.

yes, you're right - the booking systems are separate IC flights (Indian Airlines) are theoretically 'domestic' but in fact their network takes in various neighbouring countries and Thailand and the gulf states as well, while of course AI flights (that's Air India) were always considered 'international' and took all kinds of cards.

Jagson Airlines is a mystery.... they may just be a non-airline, with non-flights and if so the most successful ever!

this is online for credit cards issued in India, as of now, only a few banks are going to add this extra layer of security (in the form of a password and registration prior to 01/08/2009). unfortunately if you have a credit card issued by an Indian bank that is not in the RBI list... you will not be able to use it online any longer!
more details are here: http://www.cleartrip.com/secure/

this will not affect international credit cards issued outside India which can be used as before.
