I apologize if these things have already been discussed, but...
How reliable is SpiceJet? I would like to secure my ticket for Delhi - Srinagar flight before I leave for India.

I flew twice with them last month - no problems. They "pre-poned" (what a silly word) one of my flights by about 20 minutes and sent me a text message.

I recently booked a domestic ticket online for Kingfisher and just before I went I discovered that the card I used to pay for it had expired and I'd replaced it and destroyed the old one without a second thought. I phoned Kingfisher's customer line in the UK and after initially telling me I wouldn't be able to fly, they then said if I could get a letter from the bank detailing how the old card was expired and destroyed and what it had been replaced with then I would be fine to fly. I was still a little dubious but got the letter from Nationwide. When I went to check in at Mumbai CSI they didn't even ask me to see the card I'd paid with, neither to enter the terminal or to check in. It was probably a lucky break but at least I had the letter with me. So don't forget to save your old card if you book with it or at least photocopy before you destroy it!

preponed, Hal, is a very good word!

But... the practical point I was going to post.

I notice that www.ixigo.com indicates which of its partner airlines accept foreign credit cards. I think this is a reason in itself to give them another plug; it's a good site!

If you want to book a flight on an airline that won't accept your credit card, try cleartrip.com, I have not used them, but other indiamike members have without problems, I also don't know anything about their charges, I think the charge is small, but others can confirm this or give more info.
Kingfisher website apparently has troubles accepting cards with visa verification, just like the ICICI gateway on the rail system.
I used cleartrip instead, I had to try twice (website got stuck in one of the 10.000 redirections), but I got through the process in the end.
The difference in price is about 400R$, which is still ok, and they offer travel insurance, which I cannot remember seeing on the kingfisher website.

Expedia.co.in

They allow you to book domestic flights with INR rates with an international credit card. They immediately send e-tickets.

I have litterally tried everywhere else from Kingfisher direct to makemytrip. If you are in doubt about makemytrip.com, check out some of the comments on mouthshut.com. I am not persuaded...

I will let you know whether we are actually allowed on the plane Ilse

Tricky and Unclear rules!

Go Indigo airlines in India say that they permit the use of international credit cards. I used my international credit card to buy tickets for three of my family members. Once I bought the tickets, I get to read in the itenary that I have to be a part of the traveling party! Funny, do they forcefully want me to travel? Has anyone faced this issue before?

Thank you so much! I have been trying for ages to book some internal flights with my UK credit card with no luck at all. Expedia.co.in worked no problems and was only 75INR more than the kingfisher website.

Cheers

I believe they have this rule because they need to see the credit card when you check in so they can validate the transaction and you can sign a slip.

MDLR still not taking foreign cards. Cleartrip worked like a dream. They took about 200 rupees a person, but it was still a good price.

They do seem to accept a copy of the card being shown

All airlines that accept a 3rd party booking the ticket require the copy of the front/back of the credit card (if the booker is not travelling). You also need to sign this copy.

On another note, i've been having issues with Kingfisher airlines not accepting a foreign credit card (no issues with goair, spicejet and indigoair airlines). I tried calling call-center but no response. The same ticket was not showing up on cleartrip or makemytrip. I wish i had read expedia comment earlier because just now the ticket price jumped up by 50% on both kingfisher and expedia . I guess i'll have to wait for the price to come down again.

Also try to book tickets with credit cards which are not going to expire before your travel date. I had a bad experience on Sahara airlines a few years back where they questioned me as to why i had a different card (luckily they allowed me to travel)

I have found it easier to buy travel products{tickets, hotel reservations etc} in India using AMEX. I even booked rail tickets and the IRTC took the amex online
