Try http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/ which will lead you to http://www.airportsindia.org.in/ to figure out what's close to there. The latter will list companies served I think but it's currently down, probably to do with high traffic and/or Indian business hours.

I read about a plane service starting this week, I'm sure it was Goa - Hampi (or Hospet) - Bangalore. (but I may be wrong).

Try Deccan Air.

If Steve's news is correct (and he probably is) then follow up on that. Otherwise http://www.airportsindia.org.in/allA...s/airports.jsp which is currently up again would indicate that Hubli is probably your closest bet. http://www.airportsindia.org.in/allA...sengerinfo.jsp would then indicate that it's served by Indian Airlines and Alliance Air; there are flight schedules but they never work for me. It could matter quite a bit where you're planning to fly in from.

It's not Air Deccan, I've just checked, there are far too many airlines to check, so I don't know what to suggest.

Hm. http://www.karnataka.com/tourism/hampi/ suggests (and you never know how up-to-date these things are):

Quote:
How to get there

Air
The nearest airstrip at Tornagallu in Sandur Taluk which is 32 kms. from Hospet. Bangalore based air-charter operator, Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Ltd (TAAL), has launched sightseeing charter flights to Hampi and Mysore in Oct 2002. Contact Anjan Rao at 98440-27699 for further details.
The second nearest airport is Bellary(74 kms)
Other convenient airports are at Belgaum (190 kms) and Bangalore(353 kms).
Rail: Hospet is the nearest rail head (13 kms). Hospet is linked by rail to Bangalore, Bijapur,Hubli and Guntakal.
Road: Hampi is 350 kms from Bangalore. KSRTC Buses ply regularly from Hospet.
I'm giving up for now.

Or so I thought........

The following is a press release from Air Deccan.....

Quote:
Media Release Air Deccan gives wings to Hampi (Bellary)

Launches daily flights from Bangalore & Goa to Hampi

Bangalore, November 03, 2006

Air Deccan, India’s first low cost carrier’s inaugural flight from Bangalore to Hampi (Bellary) took to the skies today. Until today Hampi did not feature on the country’s aviation map and Air Deccan will be the only airline connecting Hampi by air. Daily flights from Bangalore and Goa to Hampi will commence operationson 15thNovember 2006 and will be serviced by an ATR 42-500 (48 seater) aircraft.

Air Deccan’s launch flight was inaugurated by Honourable Governor HisExcellency Shri T.N Chaturvedi, Honourable Home Minister Shri M.P Prakashand Honourable Tourism Minister Shri B Sriramulu. Today also happens to be the first day of the ‘Hampi Utsav 2006’ a three-day cultural festival of music, dance and drama.

HAMPI, the seat of the famed VIJAYANAGARA Empire was the capital of the largest empire in post-mogul India. Although in ruins today, this capital city once boasted riches known far beyond the shores of India. The ruins silently narrate the story of grandeur beauty and glory of the empire. Such is the splendor of these ruins that the Government of India has decided to develop Hampi as an international destination centre and give it World Heritage status.

Capt G.R Gopinath Managing Director Air Deccan said, “Someone once said,‘If dreams were made out of stone, it would be Hampi’. We have been working for the last two years to give wings and open up the gateways to this magical city. I am glad our first flight took off on the first day of the Hampi Utsav.”

“We will use the Jindal Vijaynagar township airfield which is equidistant from both Hampi and Bellary roughly at a distance of 45 minutes. The new flights will attract a good number of tourists and also travelers to the industrial town of Bellary. It takes approx 6 hours to reach Bellary from Bangalore by road and ten hours by train and the new flight will greatly reduce the travel time.”

He further added, “Hampi attracts a lot of tourists both domestic as well asinternational, and connectivity from Goa to Hampi is sure to boost tourism in the region. There is no direct connectivity between Goa and Hampi and one has to
travel to Hospet to catch a bus or train from Hampi which is time consuming especially for tourists.”

“The last flight to Bellary was a Tata mail flight that landed way back in 1932. Though there are three airstrips in Bellary none is being used and we hope that with our foray into Hampi, aviation will pick up in this region” said Capt Gopinath.

Flight Schedule

DN-305 (Daily) BANGALORE 1045, BELLARY 1145, BELLARY 1200 GOA 1305.

DN-306 (Daily) GOA 1320 BELLARY 1425, BELLARY 1440 BANGALORE 1540.

Schedule is subject to approval by relevant government authorities

Pricing

Air Deccan offers dynamic pricing on its entire seat inventory. The pricing is a function of demand and supply of seats at any given point in time. The earlierone books the lesser one pays. The fares on the Bangalore – Hampi and Goa – Hampi sectors start at Rs 6/- (plus taxes) and go up to the last day fare. Last day fare on the Goa – Hampi sector is Rs 3499/- (all inclusive) and Bangalore – Hampi is Rs 1999/- (all inclusive).

Bookings

Bookings for these flights for travel till 25thMarch 2007 are open. Passengers may log on to www.airdeccan.net, or call our 24/7 all India call centre 39008888 (prefix city code) to book tickets.

India’s fastest growing low cost airline and the 2ndlargest airline in the country with a market share of 21.2% (June 2006) Air Deccan has the largest network in India today covering 60 airports, plying over 300 flights a day. The airline currently operates a brand new flight of 16 Airbus A320 aircraft with an average age of 1.5 years and 24 ATR Turboprop aircraft. Since its inception in August 2003, Air Deccan has carried over 7.3 million passengers and the numbers are growing everyday. air deccan won't accept international credit cards by phone or over their website. my dad back home in england trie, in vain, to book tickets from bangalore to bellary but in the end it was easier for me to go a local travel agent in delhi and pay by cash.
