Flying into Delhi - Baggage Security
Hi All
I was just wondering what the policy for Delhi Airport is. I arrive there from Dubai and was wondering if I should lock my baggage or leave it unlocked. I also hear about people havingh their backpacks wrapped in clingfilm. Does anyone have tales of bags being opened or any advice? |

Make sure everything is locked ! Its mainly in the US where they make a big issue about locks on suitcases etc. If you are flying to India it is OK.
The clingfilm thing (stretch wrap) is a good thing. If you can get it done in Dubai then have it done. When leaving India you can also have your suitcases etc stretch wrapped to prevent pilferage and damage to your baggage, it costs RS100 per item at IGIA Delhi. Also on a side issue, you are allowed to carry batteries in you hand luggage. I remember reading on indiamike forums about people having them confiscated when flying from India. There are posters displayed at IGIA which clearly show those items not allowed in hand baggage and batteries are not listed. If some plank at IGIA does make an issue ask to speak to his/her supervisor and get your airline check in staff involved. |

It's not about Delhi or India in particular but yes I had some stuff stolen from my bag on arriving there and so I learned to lock your gear up wherever you fly. I'm not so sure how this works post-9/11 but if people want to check your bag they should contact you I guess.
