flights from Mumbai to Bangkok

I am trying to figure out if I should wait to buy my one-way ticket from Mumbai to Bankok (on or around 24-Mar-02) in India, if I can get it any cheaper, or if I should just save the hassle and buy it here in Canada?

The best price I've found is ~ $630.00 Cdn (about $400.00 USD) which is full fare on All Nippon or Cathay Pacific -- I do like having the ability to change my flight date/time anytime I want, as I can hardly see past a week never mind five months from now. I mean, who knows when I might actually want to leave India?

But the question is, would I be able to get this any cheaper from a travel agent in India?

By the way, the cheapest fare I could find from Hong Kong to Mumbai three weeks from now (24-Nov-01) was about $1000 Cdn ($640 USD). Ouch. I don't need any ability to change the date of this one but I have not seen the price go down *at all* in the last few months. Maybe because it's one-way, full-fare. Ugh.

I'm flyin' to Hong Kong on airmiles and yet it will still cost me a bundle... maybe with the recent drop in return fares to Delhi I should turf both these tickets and buy one return ticket, and throw away the return? (I'm spending four months in India, but flying back, hmm, maybe from Malaysia or Indonesia or Australia or something).

Sounds mighty steep to me. When in Vancouver last week getting my visa, I walked by a place with flyers advertising Van-Delhi rt for $1509: I checked out of curiosity, and it was with Malaysian via LA and KL. I asked about CX and they were $1800 via HK and BKK. This morning's Victoria paper had Victoria-Delhi rt for $1360 -- don't know who with or whatever. Any of these would no doubt be open and allow stop-over/return from SE Asia. I would start calling around local travel agents and see what you could do and save your miles for another time if something comes up. Other than that, check to see if CX has an excursion RT from HK to Mumbai via BKK allowing stop-over on way back.

(edit: not sure if your airmiles ticket with CX is o/w or r/t and whether you will need another BKK-HK sector, ouch! either way, maybe better to build up a few more airmiles for a ticket to a final destination.)

For non-Canadians, $1550CDN = $1000 US approx

Fares from Bkk To India

I would seriously check prices from BKK to India when you arrive in Thailand. We flew ANA from BKK to DEL for USD $550 busines class! It was USD $450 coach and that was round trip at that. Lots of travel shops. We used Chawla Travel as they have never failed us in the several years we've been using them. They have a web site.

What about Calcutta

Hi,

Flying from BKK to calcutta may be a much cheaper option
prices are cheap
We have flown from Calcutta to both Hong Kong and bangkok
This is a while back but the priices shouldn't have risen much if at all
the prices with Biman Air (The bangladesh national airline) were
Calcutta - HK £100
Calcutta - BKK $100

Seems a pretty cheap option to me though I dont know how pushed for time you are

By the way Calcutta is a trmendous place and a lot less hassle than bangkok

Hope this helps

Calcutta <-> BKK is cheaper than Mumbai <-> BKK, but the internal travel to get where you want to be may be much more expensive. It all depends on where you plan to go and how much time you have to get there.

For my first trip to India earlier this year, I was coming from BKK and did the math on a few different airlines. It turned out to be cheaper overall to fly to/from Mumbai on Thai Airways. I didn't get to Calcutta at all, but plan to make it part of another trip sometime soon.

That said, I would think you'll get a cheaper flight if purchased in India or BKK. That was my experience.
