Flights Delhi to Jaisalmer

In March 2007 in the Rajasthan forum, this exchange appeared:

That's interesting news, did you find out this from the Internet or a newspaper?

I followed this up because I am interested in flying from Delhi to Jaisalmer this December, if possible.

According to the Amadeus website (thank you IM), Indian Airlines flies non-stop from Delhi to Jaisalmer in December 2007: flight IC 461 departing Del at 12pm arriving Jai at 1.10pm.

This is confirmed in the schedule on the Indian Airlines (IA) website.

I then tried to book my December flight on the online booking facility on the IA website but could not, because it only lets you select a date 3 months in advance.

I have since emailed the IA online bookings helpline, the IA sales desk and an IA sales agent in Australia, to try to find out if the flight is actually happening and how I can book it.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome, but in the meantime any other suggestions gratefully accepted.

Try to book for a date in the next 3 months to see what happens, you don't have to enter any of your personal details, but you should be able to find out about the flight.

I do not understand your confusion! If it is listed on the IA web site, the flight will almost certainly happen.... So why the ?

If they say you cannot book more than 3 months in advance, that's probably also true. You may find that travel agents can book earlier than you, so you could ask them.

I'm not surprised at all the confusion, try some of these websites, they're really awful.

I've just checked Indian Airlines, I tried both the daily and weekly schedules for dates in 3 months, then I got to thinking, the summer timetables are ending soon, so I tried a few dates for 2 months time, then one month time, then a few days away, in all maybe 40 searches......

all I got every time was ....Sorry ! NO SCHEDULES., No reason.

It's slightly better than the normal infuriating results on some transport websites.....No availability for the given criteria. , leaving you not knowing if the company operates on that route, or on that day, or if all the tickets are sold or anything else.

I helped a friend plan a trip recently and was unable to get 4 out of 5 reservations (bus/plane) and was never given the reason why, extremely frustrating.

But the new route is not due to start until November, I believe. So it will not be bookable before (three months prior to) then.

The good news is that I have received a reply overnight from the Indian Airlines Customer Service centre.

The bad news is that I don't understand what they mean when they say "on time limit basis only". Here it is:

We acknowledge with thanks the receipt of your communication.

As per the current available information we are operating flight from Delhi to Jaisalmer on 22nd of December'07. We can book your travel on Normal Fare but on time limit basis only. However for the booking we will be requiring following details :-
Full Name of the Passengers
Class of Booking (Normal Economy/ Executive)
Meal preferences
Local Contact No. at Delhi or Mobile No.
You may also book your travel through our Passenger Sales Agents Overseas

Assuring you of our best attention at all times,

Best regards,

Customer Services IAL Call Centre

My attempts to book a date within the next 3 months were the same as Steven's - I can only assume this is because the flights don't start until November. Will continue with my attempt to book through IA sales centre or an Australian agent.

The 'Time Limit' is the date by which you have to pay (probably 3 months before travel, in this case). The time limit will be marked on your ticket. If you do not pay before the limit, the reservation is cancelled.

If you are really insistent on booking this flight before the 3 month window, I suggest you use a travel agent. If it was me, I would wait a few months and book direct... Your choice!

Oh, I thought it was 2008 this year.

I think I just read the first post too quickly.

Ah that explains it! How about putting us out of our misery on this thread instead?
