Flight Delhi - Kathmandu return

Hello,

I have few questions:
1. Which airline is preferred to go to Delhi - Kathmandu return? Indian or Sahara? Punctionality is important as I am planning
to transit in Delhi from Kathmandu on the way back to Bangkok.

2. My flight from Delhi to Bangkok departs at 22:00.
I am thinking of taking a flight from Kathmandu to Delhi that arrives around 17:00 (same day). Do you think it is a bit risky?

3. What's the weather like in Delhi and Kathmandu in early January? I heard that there are issues with foggy condition that flights are frequently canceled.

thanks

Could someone who has done Kathmandu - Delhi flight answer this?
I want to know whether flight cancelations are a big risk or not.

for punctuality, indian may be the same or slightly better than sahara. however, indian may have options of alternate flights in the event of a cancellation. i would prefer that.

delhi can be murder in fog in january, specially with early morning and evening flights. 1700 should not be too bad, though.

normally arriving at 1700 for a 2200 international flight would be ok at delhi. enough time to travel to the international airport and check in etc.

however, in the event of a delay from kathmandu, this could be a problem. i think a 3 hour gap between landing in delhi and making the flight should be enough. that still gives you 2 hours in hand.

hello//Namaste..

I have done the route many many times, and have flown many carriers including Indian Airlines and Cosmic Air@!

U do need to be careful flying out of KTM! It is notorious for Delays on that sector and in that season, big big fog and weather problems./...I was leading and flying with a group this year in Decemnber and they had a International connection to the States on Air India, and they missed it, due to delays leaving KTM...Had nothing to do with Delhi/ which hqas its own foggy problems too in that season!!!

so yes,,,Be careful with ur routing..I wld leave more time than that u have planned (just in case!)...U do not want to miss a International flight, for sure!

But may i make a suggestion, if u don;t yet have ur ticks yet....why don't u fly from KTM to Bkk directly..They have direct flights as thai airways(my favorite!) flies this sector..I have flown Kathmandu to Bangkok and it is a good way to go, smooth as silk and no need to backtrack to Dilly/Delhi..

Take care and any questions feel free to drop me a line. I am a American living in Delhi and go back and forth to KTM all the time..

namaste and Sawadeka..

Bad. They seem to cancel every other flight, it seems.

I flew Indian, which was good, but since then, Jet have also started serving the route and might therefore be the pick of the bunch.

Royal Nepal airlines, well, not so royal at all! However, it is the Country national carrier so they do have good pilots and such. Problem is delays among other things.

I wld stick with a Indian private carrier if available for the route, like Jet or Sahara!

I did this flight 4 times

the first 2 times were with Royal Nepal , there was a slight delay of 2 hours as far as i remember and the second time which was last january 2006 was with Indian Airlines. There was no delay at all . Usually early in the morning or at night the weather is really foggy in Delhi and all flights are cancelled or have great delays , that means from 21:30 afterwards and early in the morning till 9:00 o`clock .But yes the fog is really a problem in Delhi mostly at night

Well i am departing Bombay at 5pm to reach KTM directly at 8pm
and on the return leaving KTM at 2pm to reaching bombay at 4pm. In mid Sept. I do not see a prob with fog that time, also the rains would have cooled down..

I anyways had a word with the agent he promised me that incase of delay will shift me to Jet/Sahara via delhi.. so just hope all is well ...
