If you have a nasal spray that works , use it on the plane as well. The equalisation technique used by divers is called Valsalva maneuver , you should be able to google a good description if no diver is at hand.

after a long flight a couple years ago, i had blocked ears for a day or so after, as the pain had passed i went scuba diving shortly afterwards, it wasnt a good idea as my ears wouldnt equalise underwater it was too painful so i didnt finish the dive. a couple of days later i went to the doctor who told me i had burst an eardrum the pain was awful. a course of antibiotics and no more swimming (with my head under water...) for a week.
lately ive found that a bag of popcorn to keep munching on during the descent helps a bit. also sipping water and 'popping' my ears helps too.
The same happened to me about 10 years ago - my left ear-drum got punctured when I attempted scuba. My ears just don't equalize. Air travel was a nightmare until I discovered Nelsons Travella ((https://www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk/details.php/p912_nelsons_travella_for_natu ral_relief_of_travel_sickness. html,), a homeopathic medicine that is only available in the UK. I pop a pill about 1/2 hr before take-off and another pill about 1/2 hr before landing. It seems to work like magic.

thanks so much to ur prompt reply.. it's good that u found a cure to it.. haha.. when i read this post, i recalled that the time when i felt the piercing pain in my ear that was choking me and shooting up my brain, it was when i slept on the plane. I took the motion sickness pill n couldnt wake up bcos i was too drowsy..
