Dorm beds on domestic airport Delhi
Hi,
Does anybody know, if there are some dorm beds on domestic airport (I think I saw the sign last year...), to sleep few hours, because we will arrive at 1.30 am on international airport and have flight to Varanasi at 10.30 am. Last year we waited at the airport, and it was very hard to wait so long without sleep for 2 days in very very crowded waiting room. Another thing is a flight ticket to Varanasi - on YATRA.com are 2 tickets 4.980 Rs with taxes, but I think it is the price for Indian citizens. Or am I wrong? Maybe can somebody tell me, where to find the cheapest one way tickets to Varanasi. Thanks a lot for your help. |

I think you probably arrive too late to get something; but I have no experience with this, really, just extrapolating from Railway experience. I'd go for a budget hotel nearby, but do not know any either. Someone else?

No personal experience, but the web blurb is given below. You might want to check for availability in your arrival terminal (II) as well...
Retiring Rooms & Dormitory- 9 retiring rooms (Seven rooms are two bedded and 2 rooms are provided with 4 beds) are available at the domestic airport (terminal 1) and 2 rooms are provided at terminal II. Dormitory facilities are also available at both the terminals (8 beds at the Terminal I and 62 at Terminal II). Contact Airport Manager of respective terminal for allotment (round the clock). Transit passenger with confirmed Airline ticket for onward journey within 24 hour are allotted one bed per person in retiring rooms and dormitory. Not more than two passengers are allowed in two-bedded room. If a passenger has been allotted bed in room with more than one bed, it will be subject to other passengers joining him at any time for which he can have no objection. |

Hey Kmalik, I was just looking at the usual suspect sites, but couldn't find anything. Can you provide your source, please?
(I was looking at http://www.airportsindia.org.in/ , used to provide this but now links on to some new IGI site that seems to have nothing on the subject. http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/delhi.html -- Nothing. http://www.sleepinginairports.net/asia/dehli.htm -- Try at own risk.) btw Barbara, there's a "links" link in my signature that leads on to some air travel sites which you may or may not find useful.

I remember there is a "budget" hotel just outside, not far from, the domestic airport, that cost Rs 600 ten years ago, probably around a thousand now, even though it's just basic, if still that over such length of time. Don't remember the name. Should be others there too meanwhile.

Since you are a Dilli person, could you not find out on location about it? Remember: domestic, not international. That hotel was only a small place... RS 2000 would be an absolute rip-off for that place. so unlikely, unless much improved.

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any current info about rooms at the domestic terminal in Delhi? Our Air India flights have just been re-scheduled and now, annoyingly, arrive at 2.30am rather than 11.30pm. We're flying to Goa the next day at 11am.
Is staying at the airport a good option or are we still better off getting a hotel? I am travelling with my 60 yr old mother and don't want her to be stuck sleepless in a grim dorm bed but also don't want to waste time travelling to and from a hotel if the airport beds are ok. Thanks! |

Hi,
we were there this year in March and the Airport was under construction, so we decided to go to one of the Hotels they try to sell you at the airport. It was not so bad, we paid I think 1500 Rs, but hotel is 5 min. with Taxi from the Airport. There are a lot of Hotels there. But it was much better than to stay at the airport. We tried this 1 year ago and I would never do that again. |
