Did not makemytrip.com
Has anyone out there used makemytrip.com to fly to/from India recently? If so, what was your experience like?
So far, I have had no luck even contacting them. I am in India and their 1-600 number does not work, their online enquiry form has a script error, and their much touted ability to "chat live" with someone from their staff left me waiting for half an hour with the occasional "will be right back" message. ![]() |

I got some fares (US-India) off their website and then had to call them (US 800 number). At which time, the prices they gave me were $2-300 higher than the website. No explanation for the difference in price was provided. I am going back to my local travel agent. However, I think one IMer had a positive experience with them.

I tried to use them and it turned into a confusing experience. I could write out an explanation of what caused the confusion, but... it was just confusing. I didn't really know what was going on. So I went with a local ethnic travel agent instead, and that was a much better experience.

So did not make my trip
We had booked two tickets through Makemytrip in January 2009 to Brazil. Since our previous experience with MMT has always been good, we did not hesitate, even though we paid over 1 lakh rupees nearly 5 months before we were to fly to Brazil in June.
It was a huge mistake and we will never be using MMT again for any of our travel requirements. One week before the date of travel in June, I spent nearly 40 minutes everyday with MMT phone agents trying to have them just ISSUE my ticket (5 months after booking). I spoke to 5 agents and a floor manager but my problem was not resolved until a few hours before my flight! I should add that the only reason why I found out that my ticket was not issued until 1 week before the journey, was because I called the airline directly (Virgin Atlantic). I should also add that the problem was resolved basically because I knew someone at Virgin who helped me out and not because MMT or its staff did anything to help. I would not advise anyone to use this portal. |

I have used them to book a flight from Dallas to Delhi. I haven't flown yet(I will be in about a week now), but I had no problems with them.
Being the non-trusting fool that I am, I immediately got in contact to American Airlines to make sure that the reservation had been made--even after MMT had sent me the e-tickets.(Not quite sure why you waited so long to do this, Bluestraveller. Perhaps you'd have saved yourself some unnecessary sweating at the last minute!) I called them previously on another occasion and I think you find cheaper fares if you book directly online. The price they quoted me over the phone was way over their online price. Last edited by Sharmscharms : Jul 2nd, 2009 at 04:14. Reason: spelling |

Please note this thread was started four years ago, and their number definitely does work now.
We have used MakeMyTrip a lot, recently while pausing to look something up in the middle of a booking, their technical support service phoned us to ask whether we were having trouble. While I can understand bluestraveller1407's frustration with the problems he encountered, and while I can understand why they will no longer be using this site, their experience seems to be the exception rather than the rule and I don't think it is sufficient grounds to advice IndiaMike members not to use the company.

Customer Service, Booking etc has now been outsourced and hence the service is much better now, apparently.

I have always found it cheaper to book through the individual airlines' sites. In case of any cancellation, MMT and others take their share of costs too..

I always found yatra.com to be more efficient and reliable.

I am trying to book a round trip between Kolkata and Delhi.
Just tried yatra.com - but it is only searching flights in Kingfisher and Indian Airlines I guess I'll stick to www.ixigo.com, which allows me to search flights from all airlines (or at least many of them), and then allows me to proceed to the respective airline website to book it! Much better that way!

I like Cleartrip.com. Even they call you up themselves if you post any query in their forum. You will get SMS update on your mobile for flight time/day remainder and schedule change. I like it. I have made several air tickets from them since last 1 year. Never faced any problem.
MakeMyTrip air tickets are little costlier than Cleatrip or Yatra. |

I like Clear Trip (I have only used it for trains though), but I would recommend double checking the station the train is supposed to leave from - the e-ticket we were given said New Delhi station and it turned out that the train actually left from Old Delhi - we'd only given ourselves half an hour to find the train and seats, and this wasn't enough time to get across to Old Delhi.
All was not lost - we took the overnight bus instead. |

Anyway Cleartrip is more clean, user friendly and than other travel sites. Forum support is also there. |
