Deccan Cancellations Frequent?

It looks like I'll be experiencing just about every aspect of travel in India - I'll be in 2AC, 3AC, and Ladies car on longer train rides, Sleeper on shorter ones, and taking a few longer buses....

Now I'm looking into flights (much faster than train for the last bit of my trip). Air Deccan has a super cheap fare, but I've read that they aren't all that reliable. How frequently are their flights cancelled?

A quick google will reveal lots of complaints. However, it may be worth the risk if your schedule is flexible. Try not to get the later flights or worst the last flight as that seems to increase the odds you get stuck. Report back..

That's my dilemma... it's a later flight, and I do have kinda a tight schedule - just because I don't want to lose an extra day travelling... - I'll definitely report back on my experiences in India - this site has been so helpful to me !

Deccan does not have a very good reputation. I had one bad experience with them, after which I don't fly Deccan.

That said, Kingfisher airlines has bought into Deccan recently, and maybe things will be different now.

If your schedule is tight, I suggest avoid this airline.

what do you think about Indian Airlines?

I will be arriving in Mumbai on the Ranakpur Express at 1130. From looking at past trains, it looks to be a fairly reliable train. There is an Indian Airlines flight at 1555 which if I can make it, would work as well.

The Deccan air is at 1645. hmmmm

Out of 10 around time I have used Deccan, I don't have a single bad experience......

Whatever delays were there they were common to all airlines...nothing specific to Deccan...

Delhi - Mumbai is the one that gets delayed due to Traffic at both airports...

Delhi Baghdogra was smooth..so was Delhi Trivandrum...

More reliable than Deccan. Also, if there are problems, greater chance of them making alternate arrangements soon.

I also had no problem SO FAR with airdeccan and now with Kingfisher collaboration things are supposed to become better.
If you have a tight schedule it is another matter, as Captn has said Indian is your best choice.

Indian Airlines

My problem with Indian Airlines is that they don't accept international credit cards, so it makes booking online (before I get there) impossible. I have to resort to Makemytrip.com, whose website is giving me grief right now

What is the problem with makemytrip.com? I was there booking a flight and every thing went smooth. Which sector are you trying to book?

Deccan has improved a lot. Now with kingfisher owning a 20% stake, things would be great.
I personally have traveled a lot by deccan and have faced an issue just once.

I was booking flights today, because Indian Airlines don't want my non-Indian credit card, and Jet Airlines won't do e-ticket for Kochi... anyhow, maybe because you are actually in India, and you may have an Indian credit card? I don't know. I'm still waiting for their call center to phone me so I can finish the bookings.

That's great news, because they have very good fares to some of my destinations - RS500!!!

500 may be without taxes, which can be around 1500 more, for eg, for a Hyderabad Delhi flight.
