Deccan Air: discount airline adds flights

Deccan Air is a no-frills discount airline which uses Bangalore as it's main hub. While their schedule is not yet extensive, they are adding new flights and acquiring some new, larger, planes to service major runs (at present they use smaller turbo-props). The big deal is that their fares are *really* good and not restricted to 'residents only' as are the rupee fares and special deals on Jet, IA, and Sahara.

Some samples:

Mumbai-Goa Rp2030 (IA $95, Jet $105)
Goa-Bangalore Rp2150 (IA $115)

For tourists those prices less than half the regular fares of 'the other guys'

'Launching Shortly' is a Mumbai-Bhavnagar flight -- this is interesting as it cuts across the gulf of Cambay and would be a fairly convenient way of getting to Diu or Sasan Gir national park. The fare not yet listed, but a roughly equivalent Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight is only Rp1575, so I would expect the fare to be similar.

here is the website with all the fares:

In case anyone else is interested - the Mumbai-Bhavnagar flights are now available online, and a Mumbai to Goa flight is available at the staggering rate of 500 rupees*. I don't know what their caper is, but I like it

*About equivalent to a 3AC train ride of the same distance.

Deccan - how it goes?

the link is already smewhere in one post.

This comes from TIMES OFINDIA , FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 2004

The low availability of "no frills" tickets is easily explained. “The first five seats of the 180 seats are available for the Rs 700 slab. The next five go for Rs 1,000, then Rs 1,200 and so on. Someone booking a ticket five hours before departure would possibly get a ticket for approximately Rs 5,000, which is still 30 per cent lower than those of other airlines. The fares are staggered. They might even differ from hour to hour based on availability," Capt Gopinath, managing director of Air Deccan reveals.

I booked few days ago a Delhi- Bangalore ticket (for march 2005)for Rs 1600 (taxes incl.).
I surfed on the Deccan website today and first available price for the same day is Rs 2000.
So, must be quick

Talking indian airlines catching up

If you intend to travel by Indian Airlines, you can now book your tickets from your desktop. The new facility — `Netravel' — launched by Indian Airlines, allows a passenger to buy and print a ticket online for his desired flight by logging on to the Web site www.indian-airlines.com. Payment has to be made through the payment gateway using a credit card and the passenger can get a print out in the form of a `Ticket Image'. You can purchase tickets online 60 days in advance and till two hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. Postponement of journey is not permissible under any circumstances.

Jet online booking

Jet Airways also has online booking, similar to above, but for some reason they do not allow you to book their foreign flights (like Delhi - Kathmandu) online. Took me a lot of clicking to discover that.
Note that most Jet Airways offices accept credit cards, but not the one in Leh. Leh has two ATMs but note that these do not always work, so bring cash/TCs as a backup if you plan to buy tix there.

Air Deccan travel

I have travelled three times on Air Deccan on their ATR prop aircraft over the past 6 months. They are getting their act together well, offer value for money services. and I have no doubt that with their new Airbus services which commenced last week that they will go from strength to strength!

The cut rate fares are for a limited number of seats, dont expect to get seats for the lowest fares, they are all fully sold out for the next 6 months. Their network is fast expanding through presently they operate mostly from South India, though some Western Indian locations are also covered.

Hope this helps

word of caution - A lot of travel agents are buying up these tickets and reselling them at higher prices. (about Rs. 500 - Rs 1000 higher). So the sooner you know your travel plans, the sooner you should buy them direct from DECCAN.
