Question Credit Card Verification on Phone ?

Hi!
I recently booked a flight with kingfisher arilines from Delhi to Chennai in August! yesterday I got a call from India, when my cell was turned off! I called the number back today and talked to a guy from kingfisher that said someone would call me tomorrow to verify my credit card/VISA information, since I bought the tickets online!

Just wondered if this is normal? The number that called me was
+91 80 41263573 . Didn't find any info on the number through the web, and i really like to know who I am giving my credit card info, hehe

Whoever be the person, never disclose your credit cards details like cvv nos., passwords etc. This might be very risky.

I think I would be suspicious about this - if your credit card went through and you got the tickets confirmed and paid for, then no one should be ringing you re your credit card. I have never heard of a company ringing back with this sort of enquiry.

They might have called you, but do not give any information regarding the card. confirmation might be as good as telling them that yes, you did book the tickets.

I'd say no big deal, as long as you get the caller to provide some of the details that'd not be available otherwise. There's no harm in providing additional verifying information as long as if the conversation is about, say, card with last 4 digits 1234. But, I'd never give out the full card number to anyone - unless I am calling the number of a company I'm trying to do business with.

So, do not clam up completely, but proceed cautiously and clearly mindful of the possibility of scam.

Too risky.

By all means, make the booking over the phone but tell them that you will e-mail the card details to the company.

Cheers

Yes I think the company wanted to verify that you actually did the purchase and not some one who has either stolen your card or has your card details.
With out the CVV number fraudulant purchase is not possible.

The banking agents in India who handle the card transactions can make a heap of fuss, demanding all sorts of detail.

I had this experience with a large dental bill (very large: Rs70,000!) once and, despite the fact that I had talked to the UK card issuer about it, and the transaction was definitely approved, the agents here were very iffy about putting it through. Their delay cost me a noticeable amount on the exchange rate, which was very annoying.
