Cleartrip.com and UK debit cards

I'm in Jodhpur at the moment and have been unable to book a flight with a UK debit card. The sytem seems to have changed in the last 3 weeks. I booked from UK 3 weeks ago without any problem.

Now it asks for your issuing bank and there are no British ones listed. Mostly Indian ones but also Citibank and Deutsche Bank.

Credit card bookings seem to be OK but sadly I don't have one.
Not the end of the world as the travel agent over the road booked the flight for me but not as flexible as booking it yourself!

Best to bring a credit card too!

Generally I'd be wary of using my debit card to pay for too many things abroad since there is very little fraud or purchase protection built in. Keep an eye on your account if you can for any dodgy looking transactions! If you don't want to or can't obtain a regular credit card (and if you're from the UK the Post Office and the Abbey do the best ones for spending abroad) you can obtain a prepaid card which works just like a regular credit card. I've travelled all over SE Asia using debit cards without any problem. Only in India. I don't like to use credit card. Debit card also has the secured by visa password protection.

Hope my balance looks OK when I get home!
