Help!
Off to Delhi from NYC in January. I am traveling with an older person who needs a lot of help. We were thinking of splurging for Business class if we can get a deal. I've been discouraged from taking the Aeroflot deal on this site by another traveler. His horrific story of being stranded in Moscow between flights was enough. Any ideas about reliable ticket consilidators with good deals?? thanks. |

Though this is an answer but a suggestion.
I have been looking through some of the business class prices from Newark and JFK and seeing prices like $4500. To me that's a lot of cash. Have you seen any cheaper and where? I read the other post about Aeroflot, it's about the same on Air India, so cross them off the list to. Other flights from decent airlines like KLM and Lufthansa for coach are around $1000-$1200. A big difference in price. A suggestion would be to call the airline and see if they could give you a seat where there is more comfort. Emergency exit seats are always good for legroom and some other seats are also good. Usually most airlines will let you pick out a seat over the phone. I usually snag the emergency exit seats myself...can you imagine people putting their lifes in my hands.... Which dates are you going and from what airport (JFK or Newark)? Mike Ps....don't worry I am not a travel agent....just in the process of hunting for a good ticket myself right now. |

I think Mike, that you are correct about the plan of action.
My ex-boss who used to fly us to India twice a year for 7 years ALWAYS used an Indian travel agent here in NY becuase he gave GREAT discounts. If the ticket said $1000. it really only cost him $700. I know people who travel to Italy all the time and always use a Brooklyn based travel agenmt that does 99% percent of their business with Italy.. the idea is they get huge discounts because of their volumn to one particular place and then they pass it on to their customers to be competitive who ALL want to go to the same country. You need to be in a place where their is a huge immigrant population wanting to go home to wherever YOU want to travel to. NYC is perfect for this because EVERY ethnic group is here, thus every specialized travel agent is also here. |

Also crossing over the border to New Jersey into Iselin (little India) and Edison would also be good places to look.

Air Fares
I just did a search at "CheapFares.com" and came up with ticket prices of $1,464 by Air France. Aeroflot was the cheapest at $985.00.
However, I did the same search on Expedia.com and came up with a ticket price of $1,121 through Air France. Wow, what a difference for the SAME airline! - Gerry |

The other day I was checking out Cathay Pacific for mid January and found biz class for around $3,400. Expensive but I could deal if I could get it down to $2700 - $3000 total. There are a ton of websites offering discounts on business class trips. Just search through google. If anyone finds any good fares for January I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks

I'd love to fly Business Class regularly too, it's a shame that it it such a hefty premium over discounted Economy tickets. -- like an extra $3k to ride in the front of the plane? I flew biz to Mumbai with Korean last winter, using up the last of my milage points before they gutted the program making it unrealistic to expect further bonuses in my lifetime. I did get 2 such tickets in the 12 years I stuck with them.
One of the little niceties was that although the 747 had a first-class area, they only have Y and D classes on the Vancouver flights, so the D class passengers 'in the know' could choose the 1st class seats -- what a difference -- almost a full recline and 100% leg support. Even biz class seats felt chintzy after using those babies. Eva Air has an intermediate class (called Evergreen Deluxe or something to that effect) that is supposedly economy class in a business class seat and it is only a couple of hundred more than economy. They fly through Taiwan, and don't fly to Mumbai, so I haven't tried them yet. mike |

I have purchased tickets for my trip to India in January through a company based out of Delhi, they have very reasonable prices. I paid 1,200 for round trip from Ohio, although, they aren't business class I did get to choose the emergency isle for more leg room. Go to the site and plug in your days of travel.
Makemytrip.com Hope you can find a good deal! ~Julie |
