Cheap single airway tickets Calcutta - Bangkok

Could anybody inform me about minimal price for single airway ticket from Calcutta to Bangkok for this year? One Czech renowned travelbook for independed budget travellers (issued in 1999) wrote that the most bargain place for discount tickets for this destination is Sudder street in Calcutta. The average price for ticket in cheapest economic class was at this year (1999) perhaps for only 110 - 150 USD. Is this price kept also for 2003 or must I take into consideratuion any increase? If I would buy this same ticket in travel agency in Delhi, is this price on same level or higher? Thanks Ivo Manicek

Hi Ivo,

There are two types of fares on a lot of international flights, the official (IATA) fare, which is kind of a maximum, and then the fares that airlines use to fill the plane. These 'special fares' vary depending upon how desperate the airline is -- so on many routes, the least popular airline has to discount drastically when times are slow, and fares might rise when busy. This is why your book mentions a range of prices -- you will have to find out 'what's up' close to the time you are going and check around with an agent or two. A Delhi agent can probably do as well for you as a Sudder St one if you will be more comfortable having a confirmed seat prior to arriving in Calcutta. Off hand, I would say the range quoted (110-150 USD) is realistic and I would hope you could score a ticket in the middle area -- say $120-130 -- but can't guarantee it.
