this is probably the impossible dream but does anyone know a way to find flights from Washington, D.C. or NYC to India in November for less than $1,000? many thanks.

you might want to try priceline.com, i have found a lot of very good (read cheap) flights with them out of the US. also, if you can get a cheap flight to bangkok, you can get a cheap flight to india from there. i live in tokyo and i will be going to bangkok on a cheap round-trip and then buying a ticket to calcutta from there.
london is another possibility. you could get a cheap flight to london and fly from there. i have found that for some reason there are not a lot of cheap fares out of the states to india. but if you break down the journey, you might have better luck. nyc is a good hub. basically, if you have more time than money, you can save a lot of the latter by being fliexible. if you need any more advice or specific info, mail me. koyote10@hotmail.com

Currently, checking some prices today, you could get close to that amount.
Doing a search at http://www.makemytrip.com there are some fares from NY to Delhi for around $900, the addition of tax will push it to $1020. You would have better luck flying at the beginning of November since the peak season, I believe, starts towards the end of the month. Alternatively, any local travel agent worth their merit in your area should have a decent list of consolidators where you should be able to get that price. Be prepared for multiple stops and long layovers though and try to avoid flying on weekends and buy your ticket early. Mike |
