Question CHEAP airfare to Dhaka or Kolkata from USA???

Can any travel agents out there on hte board get me a relatively cheap roundtrip rate to Dhaka or Kolkata from Washington, DC / Baltimore / Philadelphia for mid-late February 2004? Any Indiamikers with good suggestions on the cheapest flight I can possibly find? I'm not particular about airlines or connections, but I'm willing to pay a little more to not have a 4 hour layover somewhere or not have to take aeroflot or something. All I've seen online thus far has been in the US$1500 at cheapest...

Gotta remember to grab a copy of Sunday's NY Times this week to see what's in there...

Thanks!
~Ben~

You might try World Travellers' Club They've had some good prices from the West Coast, when I've asked them.

Ahem... I'm doing my upcoming trip on FF miles.

Looking at some of the going rates right now, $1500 seems to be around the norm.

You could probably get a flight to Delhi for a few hundred cheaper and take a train over.

Thanks guys - I'll check out the wtc.

I've got ff miles galore, but they're mostly on e. asian airlines anyway, and I'm going back to korea for a visit in june methinks.. ;-)

I've managed to find one as low as 1045 in the last few hours (playing with dates on sidestep.com's program), but there's an ugly long stop in heathrow (like 5 hours..).

Thanks again! Keep the info comin'!

peace,
~Ben~

Check the Bangladesh visa situation before booking a flight to Dhaka, the last time I checked, it was only a single entry visa, this may cause problems if you go to Nagaland.

Since the introduction of the Agartala (Tripura) - Dhaka bus service, there has been talk of a double entry visa, it was being considered to try to open up Bangladesh as a cheap route from the north east states to Calcutta, it remains just talk at the moment.

I have decided to get my return ticket to Delhi instead of Calcutta/Dhaka, though I live in a area that is predominantly Bangladeshi, it is still $200 more for a return to Dhaka.

But one good thing, if I'm a bad boy on the train to Calcutta, they will throw me off at Varanasi and refuse to let me travel for a couple of days.

The Rajdhani expresses generally leave Delhi at about 17:00 and get to Howrah (Calcutta) at about 10:45 the next morning.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays a Rajdhani express departs from Delhi at 14:00 and gets to Dimapur (Nagaland) at 23:10 the following night.

You're awesome.

I'm definitely not going to buy a ticket until I have both my Indian and Bangladeshi visas in hand, but I'm waiting on applying for the Bangladeshi one right now because if my travel plans get pushed back a bit (I'm aiming got 2/19/04 departure right now), then I'm cutting it close on my visa validity (valid six months from _date of issue_).

From what I've seen, one can get a single, double, or multiple entry visa to bangladesh nowadays, but I'll hold off on my tix until I get it all squared away.

sidestep.com rocks. I'm sooooo glad I came across that yesterday. Saved me $50 on going to Houston to visit my girlfriend the weekend aftter next and it looks like it'll work wonders for this trip.

Thanks again, Steven!

peace,
~Ben~
