Booking Spicejet flights at Delhi domestic any problems for me?

I will be landing in Delhi on December 20th at around Midday. I live in England and as most of you probably know by now it's a bit difficult for us non-Indian nationals to buy tickets on-line now. I was wondering if it's best for me to go straight to the domestic terminal and book all my internal flights on this day at the Spicejet counter. I need three internal flights.....28th December Delhi-Mumbai, 30th December Mumbai-Goa, 5th Jan 2008 Goa-Delhi.
Over here in England carriers like Easyjet are cheaper the earlier you book your flight. Is this the same with lowcost carriers in India? Will there be seats available at this time of year on these planes?

yes its the the same here..the earlier you book the cheaper it is...

However Delhi - Mumbai should be fine..however getting anything for Goa should be pain in b*tt...

I have mentioned it earlier...some member posted few days back that the tickets for Delhi-Goa were costing more than Rs.25,000 for 26th Dec...and that too on Spicejet that is a low cost airline..that thats around 5 months in advance...

so I would say it would be better if you can keep on checking the online prices of various airlines for the Goa flights...and try and get it booked from some travel agent in your city...otherwise Goa might just end up being a dream..

You might consider the train instead. For example, the overnight Mumbai Rajdhani leaves Delhi at 16:30 and arrives in Mumbai at 08:35 the next day. It 's more comfortable and relaxing than the plane, costs considerably less, and you'll save a night's hotel costs too.

But if you really want to fly, you can book Jet Airways and Kingfisher through www.expedia.co.uk. I just checked and they have plenty of availability on the Delhi-Mumbai route on 28 December at £67.60 (Jet) and £68.60 (Kingfisher) one way - although some of the flights that day are already up to £150 so you'd better book quickly.

I really don't agree with that..2 hours of flight would always be comfortable that 20 hours of train...

And a person might save the hotel cost, but he will miss a day of travel as well !!

But during that period Delhi would be engulfed in lot of fog..and mostly transport is thrown out of gear..especially air transport...even trains usually get delayed by hours or get cancelled..be prepared for that in Delhi...

You are going to find that an air ticket to Goa on the 30th of December will be very very expensive and very difficult to get. Expect to pay about 300GBP.

A better plan will be to book with KingFisher airlines while you are still in the UK. I just checked the availability for 30th Dec and there are tickets available(one way) for as little as 125GBP if you book now.

KingFisher does accept foreign cards.

A flight is undoubtedly quicker, but more comfortable? Never! (At least not on a domestic low-cost carrier). Once you've travelled to the airport to check in two hours in advance of departure, waited for your bags at the destination airport and travelled from there into the city centre you're looking at around 6 hours rather than 2 - which is pretty much an entire day lost.

On the other hand, the train I quoted above leaves Delhi late in the day and arrives in Mumbai early next morning, allowing you both days to see the sights and giving a good night's sleep too. At possibly a tenth the price of a flight.

OK, so I admit I enjoy sitting on trains and would always choose the train over the misery of air travel given the choice, but in this particular instance taking the train actually seems to offer advantages.

Well i Shuttle a lot between Delhi and Mumbai..on day trips...

to take a flight of 5:45 in the morning..I reach airport at 5..

and I am purchasing my pack of cigarettes outside..Mumbai airport at 8 AM...

Similarly in the evening..I reach airport in Mumbai around 8 Pm for 9 PM flight..and I have dinner at my home at 12oclock...

I would still find those 4-6 hours more comfortable that 20 hours of train...

Well the cheapest ticket in Rajdhani from Delhi to Mumbai would not be less than Rs.1500 (approx) and that would be for 3 tier AC..

and fortunately I have boarded many of my flights to Mumbai for a lesser amount..

but again I depends on personal choice, priorities and availability..

Sorry Dave, I can't offer any advice regarding same day booking, but I would expect that your chances of flying stand-by on those dates would be pretty hopeless.

However, if you can find a way to book Spicejet on-line, the prices available as of today are much less than the scary numbers quoted above.

from the SpiceJet website:

Delhi - Mumbai 28Dec 2499 + 1575 tax

Mumbai - Goa 30 Dec 6499 + 1575 tax

Goa - Delhi 5 Jan 9999 + 1575 tax (this drops considerably after Jan 7)

Try Yatra.com . I booked over the phone from UK. I paid using my Mastercard. I had to send scanned copies of my Card(Both sides) for the same. They emailed the etickets to me. Not all their agents are very intelligent, but a bit of patience woks.

That only applies if you book well in advance.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom. Spicejet really threw a spanner in the works by not approving most foreign credit cards. I do really love train travel but on this trip i am cramming in to much and need to fly. On a side note i am even having trouble getting to India at the moment The airline i have booked UK to India is Mahan and at this moment they are barred from operating to the United Kingdom because of certain incidents leading to safety concerns. I have to contact my travel agent tommorow to find out where i stand on refund or another flight. I have seen a couple of Swiss air flights to Delhi so my India trip is not cancelled yet...i hope.
