between airports in delhi

I am leaving in 10 days Will be arriving the evening of March 12th and leaving for Bagdogra airport (near Darjeeling) at around 10 am the next day. I am wondering where to spend the night?? I've read on this site that some people opt to just sleep in the airport, but I'm not yet sure if I'm leaving from the same one. As I understand it, there is an international one and a domestic one, but when I looked in the LP guide, the map reads "Indira Ghandi international airport, domestic terminal 1" Whaaaa????

I have to check my ticket (which I don't have with me, since I am out of town at the moment) to see which airport the domestic flight leaves from.

So.

If it leaves from the international, should I find one of those sleeping rooms I've heard about?

If it leaves from the domestic airport, is there some hotel in between the two or some facitlities at the domestic airport?

Thanks. kiki

Just a guess:
You are going with Jet Airways 6W602 at 10:10? If correct then you are going to change airports (there should be a free shuttle every 30 minutes).
If you go to www.jetairsways.com you can find transit hotel offers that start around 60 USD including pick up in international airport, hotel, breakfast and drop off in domestic airport.
We used that service in Mumbai (45 USD) and it was quite good.
Remember that you might be able to check in your luggage all the way to Bagdogra from your point of origin depending on your international carrier. And also on your way back if you travel with Jetairways.
Bls. check your tickets so I do not lead you in the wrong direction ;-)

Thanks. As I don't have the ticket with me at the moment, I'm not sure of the number. I think its 9W something. It does leave at 10:10, that I know. I'm going back home tomorrow, so will check the ticket then. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Okay. Just got off the phone with Jet Airways. They say take a shuttle to the domestic airport, which is (as mountaingirl states in her other thread on this subject) also called "Indira Gandhi Int'l Airport." Jet Airways also says that "retiring rooms" are available in the DOMESTIC terminal. Once you get to the domestic terminal, you go to the Airport Manager's Office, which is always open, and simply request a "retiring room". They are given on a first come, first serve basis and cost around 600rp.

Yeah! Mystery solved.

Suggestions about time

I'm landing in International airport next 30th July at 11:00.
I'm guessing about buying a ticket to Chandigarh that leaves at 13.05 from Domestic airport but I'don't know if I will be in time to take the next flight.
Could anyone help me about how long it takes from international to domestic airport, check-out check-in and luggage retire?

Once you get off at the International terminal and complete formalities, ask for the DIAL helpdesk or the trasfer coach desk which is in the arrival hall past the Customs clearance.

There, upon showing your dom. ticket, you'll be put on to the inter terminal shuttle coach which operates at 30 min intervals. Between terminals it takes 15-20 mins if the bus operates within the airport. However, during bad weather the bus goes via city roads which can take upto 30 mins.

For a domestic flight it is okay if you check in 45 mins in advance, so presuming your flight lands on time. You'll reach the dom. terminal well in time to catch your connection.
