Try to get a a seat away away from the babies. Most airlines group all the parents with kids in the same section. Let me tell you, it will be a non-stop cry-athon. Will not really give you a chance to get any zzzs. Last time I flew via Singapore Air, the stewardess gave me earplugs -- yes, it was that bad.

The best seats are up in front of the plane. You might have noticed that they have already been allocated to first and business class . Any seat behind the engine will be noisier. Seats by the wing are quieter, but offer an obstructed view.

I have never heard of the airlines charging extra for seats in the emergency extra row. I think the FAA will frown on that -- given that those passengers have to meet certian physical considerations and agree to be involved in case of an evacuation.

Crvlvr, Oh yes, I learnt that lesson the hard way on a Kuwait Air flight a few years ago. The really young babies get the bulkhead seats so they can fix the cots. Stay away from those seats! No one can explain to a baby why its ears hurt (poor thing). Or maybe it's only the babies that tell what they really think of Economy Class!

Hey Nick,

Did you try www.seatguru.com ? I used it as a reference when I checked in to my flight to India via London on BA. It did work, the two seaters in the back had more room for me and my guy. Hope this helps a bit..TC!
