try and put your heaviest items in hand luggae
they usually allow you to be 3-4 KG over Ask at any travel agent of weight restrictions and they should be able to tell you costs for being over weight Have you thought of sending it by mail ...Its very cheap and should take around 6-8 weeks to reach Australia

If you are way over limit there is still time to make it to the Post office.
I've noticed over the last couple of years that airlines flying out of India have become pretty strict on this front. Rightfully so IMHO I've had passengers in front of me with so much luggage that I wondered if the rest of us get on the flight. Anything over your limit is flown at the dicression of the airline, some may just wave you through, some may say you'll have to leave something behind, but most will just charge you for the service, expect to pay through the nose for this! Charges of $10-25 per kilogram are not uncommon! Take a look at the Singapore Airlines website for their policy/charges towards luggage over the personal limit! Click here Singapore Airlines |

Yup, put the heavy stuff in your hand luggage. Pack it full of heavy stuff and once it's full, put some extra items in a plastic bag (so that it looks like you bought them on the way) and you should be able to get that on the plane too.
If you're bringing back clothes that have seen better days, donate them to charity and get some good karma for your flights! If you're still over the limit, wear more clothes onto the plane than you need to (bring an extra loose plastic bag for storing them in-flight) and maybe post a couple of things home if you have time. I don't know what your airline fees are like but JAL charges like a bull, I had to pay $150 in excess baggage because I didn't have time to repack etc. Next time I'll be following my little strategies above ![]() |
