any flight/train fm Rishikesh to Varanasi

actually, my inital routing.
Amristar–Chandigarh-Rishikesh-Varanasi-Bodh Gaya-Kolkata

most of the transport mode i plan to take fm one place to another is train. however, the long journey fm Rishikesh to Varanasi that make me want change to take the inland flight between these two points.

or if take train, don't you think better to stay one night at lucknow fm Rishikesh pass to Varanasi -coz it has to take around 18 hrs.

any one can suggest the best flight/train fm Rishikesh to Varanasi.. thank you.

What day of the week will you leave Rishikesh for Varanasi?

Train 8104 departs Roorkee on Wednesdays and Fridays at 18.55 and gets to Varanasi at 09.30 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Roorkee is about 25kms from Haridwar.

No direct train from Rishikesh. Several trains from Haridwar.

You save at least 3 and a half hours.

Roorkee is a nice town, and the railway station is totally safe.

You can get a taxi from Rishikesh to Roorkee, or a bus from Rishikesh to Haridwar, then a bus to Roorkee from the same bus station in Haridwar.

You can take any Rishikesh-Delhi bus. It'll pass from Roorkee.

From Roorkee bus stand take a rickshaw, it should charge you Rs. 15 for railway Station.

If you are feeling hungry, just opposite the Roorkee bus stand is Divine Restaurant & Hotel. It's very good.

And as our Railway Guru Steven_ber has said, Roorkee is a small and safe place.....

There is a train (4609) from Rishikesh (16.20) to Roorkee (18.36), but it's too risky, when I took that train it got to Roorkee about 20 minutes late.

I got to Roorkee early to have a look around for a few hours, it was very enjoyable, a typical town that doesn't see any tourists.

Outside the train station is a long quiet (by Indian standards) road with fruit sellers, chai stalls and loads of places for food.

I seem to remember that Taxis charge Rs300 from Rishikesh to Roorkee, but you should double check as this figure seems low to me (autos constantly rip off tourists travelling between Haridwar and Rishikesh), you'll see price boards outside some taxi places, look at these rather than asking a taxi driver.

I don't think you can expect that price now ! They will ask for atleast Rs. 800 now.

I've probibly got the figure wrong.

I mentioned the figure in a post about a year ago, but have not got time to search for it as I've got to rush to work.

PLEAzzz HELP..??!!!!

Hallooo!! My name is Nick and I am from Greece - i have travelled a lot in Asia, but Its my first time that I will travel to India (!...), and I will have only 11 days there, because I want to go to Nepal later. I have a problem since i dont know which is the best option :
a. Arrive in Delhi, rent an enfield and biking to Rishikesh, stay there 1-2 days then biking to Haridvar (and maybe Devaprayag), stay there 1-2 days, then go back to Delhi to give the bike back. Then take the train to Varanasi, stay there 2-3 days, then leave with train for Nepal ( Katmandu,Patan,Bahtapur) - is this trip possible or not????
b. Arrive in Calcutta, stay one day, then go to Varanasi, stay 2-3 days, then train to Delhi and go to Haridvar-Rishikesh, and from there to Nepal (Gomukh). But in this case I will miss the bike part , and i dont know how easy it is to go from Gomukh to Katmandu, cause i wanna stay there 6-7 days, and then fly from Ktm back home..&*%
Please help me because i have the sense that i make sth wrong..?#$%!

thanx an advance,
Nick

Dear Nickf,

Regarding option A correct sequence is Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh- Devprayag-Delhi.

You may hire bikes from the famous Lalliji of Karol bagh.

option B, corrcet sequence is Kolkata-Varansi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Delhi. All this can be done in trains, very conveniently.

I hope you are flying out to Nepal.
