Amritsar - Dehradun

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any flights from Amritsar to Dehradun? I can't seem to find one now but I think I saw one before.

I didn't thing there was a direct flight, but either way, Dehra Dun airport is closed at the moment, I think to lengthen the runway, but seem to remember someone saying it would be opened again soon.

You can get an overnight train from Amritsar direct to Dehra Dun, or you can get a fast daytime train to Saharanpur, then make your way to Dehra Dun, from Saharanpur it is only 67kms to Dehra Dun.

Train 4632 departs Amritsar daily at 22.00 and gets to Saharanpur at 05:00, and Dehra Dun at 10.05 (3A, FC, SL.)

Train 2054 departs Amritsar daily (not Thursday) at 07.00 and gets to Saharanpur at 12.20 (CC, 2S.)

The above info should be ignored if your intention is to go to Haridwar/Rishikesh.

Train 4632 does go to Haridwar from Amritsar.

I've taken this train before and, while it is convenient, it wasn't terribly fast. It took us seven hours to reach Dehradun from Saharanpur, whereas it's about two by bus!

Amritsar is great - we really liked it and wished we had more than one day. I looked and looked at alternatives and then ended up taking the Shatabdi up from Delhi in the morning and then back the next evening. We stayed at the Royal Inn BTW and it was pretty good (great hot water!).
