amistar -- leh -- dehli
I am touring around India for two weeks and will finish in Amistar, and at that point I will be staying in leh, ladakh for two weeks before heading back to the airport in dehli.
I am traveling on a budget, but also have limited time and don't want to spend a week of my trip on trains/buses. How long would those distances take on trains/buses -- from amistar to leh and from leh to dehli? Does it make sense to travel by bus/train or will is take way to long and i should just take a plane? Any idea how expensive a plane would be or a good website to book domestic flights? thanks! sara |

Hi Sara,
Amritsar to Manali will take around 8/9 hours. From Manali if you catch a bus to Leh which is hectic and pathetic will take another 2 dyas with night halt in Sarchu. You surely need some painspary in this trip cause most of the buses are pathetic and road the road......... If you do the journey by bus or car you will be pleased by the beauty of the places. All together you are going to spend 6/7 days on the whole journey from Amritsar to Leh and back to delhi. Check out this site for flights www.travelguru.com.You will get the cheapest tickets here same as what the airlines will charge you. No added tax. My suggestion will be to make it one way by road and other by flight. Travelling by road is tough ...so you decide. Best, Sam |

right - that is ALOT of traveling time!
i am now re-thinking my touring part of the trip to end in manali instead of amristar. i would prefer not to spend 2 days on a bus, but is there another alternative to get to leh from there? it def seems like it is worthwhile to take a plane back to dehli. the link you gave me didnt work though. |

Try agin www.travelguru.com.
From Manali you can go in shared taxi. Those are even worst and crampy. From manali to Leh there is no other alternative. |

You can do it once you reach Manali. Saty away from touts and go to the Govt State Bus counter.
Keep some pain spray handy...and practice control over natures call.End of the trip you will have something to remember and talk about both good and the bad. Cheers, Sam |
