Thanks! You're right about the fare. I'm not sure I'm going to book this one early, but this is a very useful site!

If my route is not too full, do you think I might do better, price wise, to book when I'm in India? I booked a lot of other tickets in advance, but they were mostly within Rajasthan the previous two weeks. I'm a little more relaxed about this leg of the trip.

Thumbs up hopping cities different transP

Well, thanks again
I did not realize there were more replies to my ??, else I woul dresponded earlier. I am leaning how to manage these threads etc. Pardon me if I use the wrong icon ever, imagine putting thumbs down when you meant the opposite. Since I have bad eyesight that doesn help.
Anyway, yours is the question. Now that I figure out the flying const, I would like to look at doing some of my trip by train or taxi, but don't want to loose too much time. We won't mind some kind of overnight travel where you could sleep on a train and save some airfare. E.G Bombay - Cochin, The Delhi leg (1/23-1/31) we want to hit Jaipur and Agra(day trip), but maybe we can do part of this by train, with the plan to get to Goa on 1/31 from either placee.

Given your knowlege and experience, if this were you how would you do it, considering that you would want to hit some main sites and get a flavor of the culture.

Thanks agaan
Mark

The cheapest direct flight option Mumbai - Cochin on Jan the 16th is Kingfisher, priced at $95 for a non-resident. You could fly Air Deccan Mumbai - Bangalore - Cochin. Just checked now and that combo would cost approx $64 if booked soon (www.airdeccan.net). Beware: you have to book the tickets seperately and you if you miss your 2nd flight because of delay of the first flight, you will have to buy a new ticket. You have 1,5 hour to switch in Bangalore, if there is no delay.

As for your flight Cochin - Bangalore on the 20th, the cheapest option is Air Deccan at $38.

Bangalore - Delhi on 23rd will cost you $112 on Kingfisher and $88 on Air Deccan. Flying onwards from Delhi to Jaipur on Deccan will cost $21.

The cheapest Delhi - Goa on the 31st is $105 on Kingfisher. For the Goa - Mumbai route there are quite a few options: GoAir, Spicejet, Kingfisher and Deccan. Price should be around $25-$35.

The question is: do you want to do everything by plane?

I don't know if Air Deccan goes there but they are usually the cheapest. http://www.airdeccan.net/airdeccan/home.asp

then, compare with they try most of the airlines.

transfer international to domestic at mumbai airport

I am flying into Mumbai at 12.50 in the morning with Gulf, thinking about booking an incredibly cheap flight to Goa with spicejet (35 USD incl.), which departs at 16.15.

Do I have enough time to get from international to domestic terminal by 15.45 when check-in closes? Or else: how long does it usually take to get through all the procedures at the international airport, how long to get onto a free shuttle bus. Is it possible to just get a taxi for the transfer if urgent (sounds like quicker, no waiting for shuttle)?

Hi Nikita:

You have enough time for travel from Mumbai internation to Mumbai domestic. However, one thing that can throw it off is if the customs take FOREVER. If it's 1-2-3, you can just get a prepaid taxi straight to the domestic airport and you'll still have time!

Thumbs up Domestic flights

I have booked many domestic flights.

I found that for some sectors (mumbai jodhpur) and jodhpur to udaipur, Indian Airlines was cheaper. I believe if you pay in USD they give you a slightly cheaper fare.

Also, from Udaipur to Delhi I am flying Jet Airways. I got these tickets from www.travelguru.com which are cheaper than buying directly from Jet Airways. (travel guru was $105 per ticket inclusive of taxes, whereas Jet Airways was $134 inclusive of all taxes for the same flight/time/date). Do note: Travelguru needs an Indian address to mail you the tickets for free by courier.

From Delhi to Mumbai I am flying Air Deccan. It's coming up to be approx $50 USD. Cheaper or almost the same as First class a/c train ticket and not to mention faster. http://www.airdeccan.net/

I also came across this airline -
http://www.jagsonairline.com/ - they have cheap fares and good connects for the Delhi-Rajasthan sector.

Other than that, for three places I am taking the train and had no problem booking my tickets online (I chose iTicket instead of etickets as eticket was giving me some issues with the payment option) and have all my confirmations already.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience.

Mumbai to Udaipur

Anyone know if Indian airlines and Jet Airways are the only ones flying this route? I checked Air Deccan, Spicejet and a few others, just wondering if someone knows off the top of their head.

Check in on domestic flights

Hi

Can anyone tell me how early you need to check in for domestic flights. Have two to catch in March - Jaipur to Udaipur and Udaipur to Goa (via Mumbai). Both with Jet Airways.

Thanks

Thx for the info.

Mumbai to Udaipur

Indian Airlines & jet airways are the only two flyign that sector (as of last month atleast!). Go for Jet Airways, faster, reliable service and they do announce if the flight is delayed as opposed to Indian airlines where you just assume that the flight is delayed indefinitely until the plane takes off.
