Thanks for the responses re flights in Feb 06. I've decided to wait and see if spicejet.com flights become available for Feb in November as I really can't afford $230 per person with Kingfisher and Air Deccan is via Mubai and I understand spicejet.com is direct to Delhi and prices normally come in around £60 each so I shall wait and see if they become available online soon.
Cheers
Lisa

Excellent Thread , good research.

May i suggest a few things here... I found it quite cheap to go for the online auctions on these listed websites

http://auctions.indiatimes.com/ for airdeccan, air sahara and indian airlines

http://www.ebay.co.in for kingfisher airlines

http://auctions.rediff.com .. had some good fares , checked now cant see any listings but do check, its through Thomas Cook.

Booked a Goa-Delhi flight for 40$ only one way on kingfisher ; i got lucky

OK, I'm confused. How can you buy an air ticket on eBay? Is it already purchased in someone else's name, and you have to impersonate that person? Or is it not issued? Or are tickets transferrable?

So there is no confusion.. its an E-Ticket !!

Use any E-bAY account and log in to www.ebay.co.in , and then bid in your name. Its that simple . Still confused ?? contact customer support @ebay

I understand how eBay works, but who is the seller?

Here, you can only buy a ticket in your own name for a specific day/time. Air tickets are not transferrable.

Does it work differently in India? Or is this being sold by the airline or a travel agent?

Cool... as long as I'm not buying something that's being sold legally, I'm willing to check it out!

On rediff.com, one can compare the air fares being offered by various airlines in the domestic sector by feeding the sectror and date and often I find that full service airlines are having tickets on offer at cheaper rates than so called cheap airlines. makemytrip.com I believe offers the same service but i find it very slow.

Hey, can anyone tell me what it means when SpiceJet say that a fare is 'Applicable on return journey only except DEL-AMD & v.v.and DEL-BOM & v.v.' - I am lost! Return journey from where? It is coming up in the fare conditions when I search for a one way fare...

Hopping cities ofn 1st trip to India

This is my first post, what a site and very overwhelming but so useful.

2 of us US citizens got tickets for 1/12/06 - 2/6/06 to Bombay and want to do this on budget. We are finding domestic airfares higher than expected

Please advice on airline and best route for
Bombay - Cochin 16 January
Cochin - Bangalore 20 January
Bangalore Jaipur or Dehli 23 January
Dehli/Jaipur to Goa 31 January
Back to Bombay on 5 Feb

What would you suggest given different airlines do these routes.

We are open to changing our trip, but to be in places with better nightlife on weekends.

Does that Royal train ride do one way Jaipur - Delhi?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Below is what I found on the net, for one person, including taxes.

The cheapest direct flight option Mumbai - Cochin on Jan the 16th is Kingfisher, priced at $95 for a non-resident. You could fly Air Deccan Mumbai - Bangalore - Cochin. Just checked now and that combo would cost approx $64 if booked soon (www.airdeccan.net). Beware: you have to book the tickets seperately and you if you miss your 2nd flight because of delay of the first flight, you will have to buy a new ticket. You have 1,5 hour to switch in Bangalore, if there is no delay.

As for your flight Cochin - Bangalore on the 20th, the cheapest option is Air Deccan at $38.

Bangalore - Delhi on 23rd will cost you $112 on Kingfisher and $88 on Air Deccan. Flying onwards from Delhi to Jaipur on Deccan will cost $21.

The cheapest Delhi - Goa on the 31st is $105 on Kingfisher. For the Goa - Mumbai route there are quite a few options: GoAir, Spicejet, Kingfisher and Deccan. Price should be around $25-$35.

The question is: do you want to do everything by plane?

Priyamav, where did you get $95 for the Kingfisher flight from Mumbai to Cochin?

I want to buy that same route 10 days earlier, and am looking at $150 on Kingfisher. It appeared the same for 16 January when I checked online just now.

Any secrets to getting lower fares on Kingfisher?

For the 6th of January I found a fare at $117 on Kingfisher.

Book through www.makemytrip.com. Make sure to click on "expand your search options" in the fare query. Uncheck "I am a resident of India" if you are indeed not a resident of India. You will now be quoted in dollars.

For the 6th of Jan the price is $117, including all taxes and booking fees. You can pay via credit card online.

It keeps defaulting to the U.S. site, which won't let me book domestic flights within India! Oh well, they have a phone number I might check out.
