I booked two internal flights with makemytrip as well as booking and cancelling another - all OK, refunds made OK... no problems... The thing I always try to do - in any case of making bookings etc - is to find a person, form a relationship with them, and deal with them each time... I did that with makemytrip (Hello Bharat!) - got his email address, he called me here in Sydney to finalise everything.... etc etc etc.

Just noticed the Deepak Sharma conversation - I see someone else has the same idea! My guy is Bharat.Nagpal@makemytrip.com - tell him Kristin from Sydney recommended him, he'll probably hang up! (Just joking - but I did put him through his paces with my chopping and changing).

This might be interesting to people who fly with IndiGo:

I just started a new thread to keep people updated regarding foreign credit card acceptance on domestic flights.

Foreign credit card acceptance. (domestic flights)

The thread also contains direct links to all airlines operating domestic flights in India at the moment.

My question :
Is it possible to up-grade from coach to first class at the
airport? Flying from Mumbai to Kochi on Jet Air. Is it a
"nominal" fee or must I expect to pay "full fare"? Thanx.

Domestic airlines will have business class, not first.

The difference between the economy and business is large, not nominal, though they will happily change for you.

However, sometimes the original ticket may not be refundable, or you may lose a fair amount of money making a change. Better to check with the airline/your ticket.

O.K., got it. The wife found a thread from Jet. It claims(?)
that for U.S.$800 we can fly R/T business. It's a "2-4-1" fare.
Only possible hitch, we're holding paid/confirmed tickets now?
I'm 190cm(6'4") & the 'lil missus is 6'!! Legg room is a joy!!

I would call up Jet, tell them you want business class but don't want to lose any money on the cancellation. They should be happy to get business class fare.

You can call jet airways on 39893333 in any major city for info & also to make changes.

In case you dont wish to upgrade - another option is .. check in early. Request for the 'exit row'. better still is the 'exit row with reclining seats'

There are usually 2 exit rows & they have ample leg room. The first row does NOT allow your seats to recline. The 2nd row ALLOWS your seat to recline. The latter is usually row 16 on most Jet Airways flights. However this can change from aircraft to aircraft.

Just tell them at check in you would like a seat with a lot of leg room & thats reclines.

ALternatively (best option) you can also try a web-check in. This way - you can check in earlier in the comfort of your home or hotel. Go to jetairways.com & select the tab - check in

In order to 'web check in' - you will need the PNR no of your ticket. You can check in between 12hrs to 1hr before your flight departure. You can choose the seat you want from the seating diagram that comes up on your screen.

You can also tele check in at the no given above .. but you need to have a Jet Privilege (frequent flier) membership.

I am 6'2" & I am comfortable if i am seated in the 2nd exit row. If you dont want to spend the extra dough to upgrade ...this is the best option.

Really great information!!!!!

Just one question, can someone rate these airlines? I’m going to either fly Jetair / Air Deccan / or Indian airline and I want to know which one is more reliable

Thank you!

I've flown on all 3 of them, the services are similar, though the prices are very different (Air Deccan being the cheapest and has the lowest "taxes"). Indian Airlines does NOT accept non-Indian credit cards therefore making it impossible to book it online from their website.

Air Deccan has less routes than the other 2, but do fly to some obscure spots like Bangalore to Bellary (good airport hub for Hampi).

Their inflight services are comparable (very good), but Air Deccan does not serve meals, only drinks, IF that is an issue with you. Basically, it depends on your own schedules and their availability.

Cheers!

I checked a few months ago and this route had been cancelled, the plane used to go on to Goa.

Kingfisher took over Deccan not long ago, maybe they decided the route wasn't profitable.

I will rate the airlines as per wat i have flown

Jet Airways
Kingfisher
+ Full service
+ on time
+ more baggage allowance
+ little more flexibility in terms of changing tickets, accomodating you in case of missed flight. (this depends on the type of ticket you buy tho. The more expensive - the more benefits)
- a bit more expensive. but if you book early & look properly .. you can find some really good fares on Jet

Go Airways
Indigo / Spice Jet
Jet Lite
Deccan
+ cheap
- absolutely do not accomodate you in case you miss your flight
- charge you even for 1-2 kgs of excess weight.
- Baggage allowance is only 15kgs
- No frills & No service (Jet lite.. serves snacks & Water free)

I have listed the airlines in the order of preference ... if i were to fly.

+ = positive points
- = negative points

I would not fly Indian Airlines
