Hello, send an email to book your flights in India, they will answer an give you their price. If you agree, then you should pay with a visa/master card on their secure website. No problem with this agent, they organized my last 2 travels in India (2006 and march 2007).

Mumbai to Rajasthan flight New Years Eve... where and cheapest? I've decided to begin our itinerary by flying out of Mumbai the day after we fly in (at 7.00pm) and straight to Rajasthan to begin the holiday from there,we'll spend 4 or 5 days in Mumbai on the way home. Does anyone have an idea of the cheapest destination to fly to from Mumbai? (At least that will determine where we start!) I was thinking Udaipur would be a nice place for NYEve (as suggested by the wonderful Steve B) - but looks like no-one really flies there & looks expensive US Dollar type fare...
And what airline? I realise the fares probably won't be released yet... I'm having trouble working out the foreigner/Indian thing - it seems to be all over the place. For instance, travelguru gives prices in rupees - are these for foreigners as well? Should this question be in a different thread BTW? |

I believe so - seems that airlines are stopping the dual-pricing nonsense

This may well be too early to book, but book as soon as you can. Check cleartrip.com for schedules and prices. Don't worry about the foreigner/indian fares. That practice is fading away. You should only buy rupee fares. If you run into the problem of the airline or agencies like Travelguru or Cleartrip not accepting foreign credit card, deal with india.makemytrip.com and follow the procedure I outlined in post #194 above. Needless to say, New Years is a busy time and you should book your hotels, sightseeing, etc, asap. |

Which airline and what's the difference in price? See if the airline website will accept your credit card. If not, just try calling/chatting with MakeMyTrip another time. Fares change moment by moment, but they should be able to get good rupee fares on a non-Indian credit card.

I always use chat with makemytrip.com. They are little pushy on the phone. But chat works for me.

Spice Jet
I want to give three cheers to Spice jet, the airline that i flew (3x) whilst in india. their prices were always the best, they were the only airline that allowed internet booking with an int'l credit card, and they really have their act together. they send your itinerary to you both online and as an SMS if you have a mobile phone.
I wrote them an e-mail last night because i needed a copy of one of my old proofs of purchase and they sent it to me a few hours later. They are incredibly efficient! I was very pleased with their services! Hmmm, maybe i should look into their stock options...

Foreign nationals are barred from buying stocks of Indian companies in the Indian stock exchanges. Of course if the company that you want to invest in has an ADR listed on one of the American exchanges then you can always buy it or buy a mutual fund that has Spice Jet as one of its holdings.
