Thank you. I just got some info from a friend who says that my friend who will be coming with me to Delhi but not boarding the international flight with me, can't come to the airport... Is that true?

Abosolutely true, no one is allowed inside the departure terminal building without valid travel documents. You could say goodbye downstairs in the arrivals lounge I suppose. You have to pay to get in here but it's open to everyone!!

Hurrah!

Wow, I booked the flight from Travelocity! I would never have thought of that. it was a bit more expensive, but worth the extra dollars on this end to make the transition there smoother. How fantastic, Hurrah IndiaMike!

Thank you Barbara!

Some advice please.......... we want to fly to Varanasi 2nd week of April. Went into travel agent today in Aust. She can book the flight but it will cost a staggering au$330 ea ( approx 11,000rps ) with air india. she also said the flights are nearly full. I had a look at indian airlines & the flights are not even open yet ( more than 90days ) tried the week earlier to do a mock booking & only works out at au$173 ea (5700rps) incl taxes. What to do???
Was hoping we could wait till we got there to book a flight. This seems like a bad idea now. Will we get a flight??? Can non indian resident book over internet with indian airlines??
If anyone has any thoughts on this one it would be much appreciated. ( Train is not an option on this one due to time restaints ).

Thankyou. Will look into travel lite etc. If we book this way I'm assuming it will be an e-ticket.

domestic flights

I tried yesterday to go on travelite. They only offered flights up to 2005. Not very useful in 2007. I tried travelite.org through Google. It was specific to India. Perhaps someone else has a more up to date address.

Spicejet fly to Varanasi and I think you can still book on-line with your creditcard.

Thanks Featherbrain, Will have a look now.
Barbara, Have another look at www.indiatravelite.com I simply put in a query flight form & they were very prompt. Less than 12hours.
The price thru travelite was roughly the same as what I can get here in Aust. Seems awefully expensive. I thought air travel was really cheap in India. I don't consider delhi to varanasi return cheap at 11,000rps. Maybe I'm tightfisted. I thought it would of cost somewhere around 6000rps.

Air travel in India is cheap, if you are an Indian resident. It also helps to be able to buy with a credit card issued in India. They were supposed to mave made away with two-tier pricing last year, but as you can see, it is still there in practice.

A New Question For YA

Quote:
Has anyone a solution to how a foreigner (I am British) can buy Kingfisher or Air Deccan tickets before arriving in India?

I don't think it works with the carriers that use ICICI's "gateway" (e.g., Air Deccan), but you can use an American Express card to buy tickets online from Kingfisher, Jet, and other airlines.
I am planning on buying tickets from Delhi to Cochin when I get there in March... does that mean I won't be able to pay for them with my VISA, even if I buy them at the Delhi airport? If I want to get my tickets from Air Deccan... how do I buy them?

NEVER FLY AIRDECCAN PLEASE !
This is one of the worse...they cancel and you are left with no other option to buy one-the-spot and I had gone through this when fly from PUNE to DELHI.
