Airport Transfer at 04:30

Yet another post from Marky, please don't hate me.

My flight arrives in Delhi at 04:30 and I was wondering whether it will be easy to get a (legitimate) taxi at that time, one that you need to book through officials (police is it?)

My hotel, Janpath Guest House, has offered an airport transfer for 1000Rps which I think is extortionate, however, being that it is my first visit I am considering it due to the convienience.

Any thoughts?
Mark

You can get a prepaid taxi at any time. It is 'police approved', not really booked through the police. Should cost around 300/350 rupees, I think.

edit: cross posted.

1000/- is way too much. PRE-PAID taxi is the best option.

The vehicle number of all pre-paid taxis are noted down by te cops on a register before they leave.

If you have some extra the driver might charge something extra. Read the reverse of the pre-paid slip

cheers

& surrender the counterfoil to the driver ONLY after he drops you where you want him to. Make that clear to him. He gets paid only when he turns up at the booking office with the counterfoil you give him after you reach your place.

DRAT! Another post!!! WE HATE YOU MARKY!!!

Since you arrive at 0430 hours, I reckon you will take about an hour (and half) or so to clear the immigration and get your baggage etc. At this hour, there are fewer flights landing - so the 'hassle' component will be less anyway. So, take a prepaid cab and make SURE he understands the address clearly. Don't tip unneccessarily, don't give him the counterfoil, till you are sure that you are at the right place. It will take you another 30 - 40 minutes to reach your hotel so it won't be dark. Lucky you!

1000 Rupees! Yeah, FountainGirl is right, by the time you actually get out of the airport, the city wakes up, and Delhi wakes up to a new day. 1000 Rupees, I'd rather spend that on a cheap cricket bat.
