Just wanted to say how impressed I was with our Kingfisher flights. We flew from Delhi to Cochin and from Cochin to Mumbai. It was great to be met at the entrance to departures by the red uniformed young men (dressed rather like hotel bell-boys) who take your cases for scanning and then escort you to the check-in counters. They are not allowed to take tips, either.
On the flights small bottles of water are issued freely along with an amenity pack and a fairly decent meal. I think other airlines could learn a lot from Kingfisher. Shame they don't fly outside of India - I'd use them all the time. |

I did three domestic flights while in India: 1st - Chennai to Trivandrum with Paramount; 2nd - Trivandrum to Goa with Kingfisher; 3rd - Goa to Chennai with Paramount. When i booked in Chennai my flight to Trivandrum i was a bit suspicious of the airline that the travel agency offered me (Paramount) as i never heard about it before, but it was definitely a very good choice. Great service inside, they really take good care of you (candies, water bottles, pens, warm tissue to clean up your hands, good food i gotta say...), and apart from the personnel being very friendly and smily, the seats are very comfy and spacious, which is quite an important issue.. This kind of very satisfactory experience was equally delivered on both Paramount flights. But then... i had to take the Kingfisher flight to Goa. First of all, it wasn't a direct flight (not available they told me...) but a three stops one! So imagine, 4 take offs and 4 landings... on a small Kingfisher propeller airplane!! I never flew with such kind of planes, and i must admit that even if i don't have problems or fears about flying, this time i was a bit.. how to say.. concerned. Everytime we landed the land inspectors checked the two propellers on each wing of the plane.. but that ain't helping to chill yourself out. Also, my ears were seriously irritated by the eight landings and take offs, and it took me few days after i arrived to get my left ear in normal shape again, as i was some kind of deaf since my landing in Goa - very irritating. Furthermore, during the all journey there was a constant deafening noise in the plane, i think due to the propellers and to the fact that the airplane was not the sturdiest piece of aircraft that might have flown the indian skies. To top this 'great' Kingfisher experience, i must add that it was the most expensive of my three domestic flights. For what concerns me, when i'll need a domestic flight in India i'll surely look for Paramount, hoping that they cover that itinerary. :: roger roger ::

Review Jet Air and the new BLR
Had a fantastic flight with Jet Airways, short but sweet, BLR to COK.
For an American, used to being nickled and dimed and overcharged for even a candy bar on US Domestic carriers, Jet Airways was a marvel. In a one hour flight, we received, drinks, lunch, a newspaper, and great service...and a that small hand held fan.(MY daughter used that great line from "The Namesake" film: "Try a little ancient air-conditioning" The new BLR airport: modern, efficient. Returned there from BLR to LHR. WOW! A few duty free shops-- and most noteworth for us... GREAT coffee (see below) and clean washrooms, monitored by staff who, when we were there, were constantly cleaning, checking supplies, etc. Security at BLR they insist your carry -on luggage be tagged wtih your name and airline as well. FIrst time i've seen this, at any airport anywhere. It makes sense, in case you forget carry-on bag on the plane, but never had i seen that as a requirement. There were multiple passport checks. Security personnel overall were great--efficient, thorough, courteous I'm not sure if ths is new since the Mumbai attacks, or the norm in all airports in India--now, ONLY passengers are let into the terminal. When you first enter, they check your name on a list which list ALL passengers departing on all flights for that time of day. The driver and travel agent who kindly accompanied us to make sure all went ok, were not even allowed to enter the terminal, even to the area before you check in. Also, when you first arrive, outside there are kiosk windows attached to the outside of the terminal --some list airlines, others do not--and there is a sort of a general airline (ca;'t recall what it was called) information area. British Air did not have its own information window at this outer entry to the airport BLR has the BEST coffee we had on the trip (if you like strong, perfectly made, Italian espresso lattes). There is a Coffee Day downstairs, but upstairs, in the area after you've cleared securty, is an Illy Coffee Bar. SOOOOOO good!!! The baristas were terrific, not just at making coffee, but in genuine.courtesy and friendliness A great last experience in South India. (-; At this point , the main prob with BLR is its distance from Bangalore. There's a hotel being built there, but its opening date is uncertain. And it will be pricey, no doubt. For now, nearby--Fantasy Golf Resort is at the most, a ten minute drive--superconvenient. But the place itself...hmmm. OK for a briefstay where all you want to do is organize your packing and have a shower befor a long trip, but far too expensive considering the quality of the so-called "deluxe" room. Not recommended at the current price. Happy New Year, all. |

Larkilli... Are you sure that was a plane? Sounds more like a bus to me!!!
![]() Here's a word for Heathrow's new Terminal 5, as I did the BA Chennai/London return in November. It is really rather good! It is a great shame that it remains a monument to bad British management: another month and proper testing and training, and it could have opened to fanfares of praise! It is enormous, and, on the return trip, I took a train (only 90 seconds) to the departure gate.

I'd NEVER recommend a stay there. Waaayyyy too expensive. The room we had looked nothing like the photo on the website. We didnt have bed bug bites . As there were no mattress pads on the mattress--nothing between the mattress and sheet--I slept in regular clothes, atop the blanket. the rug at the bathroom door was FILTHY. Mossies there were the worst we experienced in South India. The one thing that surprised us was the comfort of the beds for the pre-flight rest. We lucked out.
I plan to write a tripadvisor and IM review eventually. Perhaps most of the folks who stay there are too drunk to notice the rooms. The website talks about the place's appeal "the party animals" LOL. It's a shame, because with that much conveneince to BLR, and the large grounds, they could make it really nice, and WORTH the prices. |
