I was recently quoted $1700.00 taxes included for a flight from Vancouver, Canada to Chennai in late September and returning late October. It sounds fair but as a first timer I thought I would check with some of the more experienced travelers.

I checked with my regular travel agent in Vancouver a few days ago and Vancouver-Mumbai with Singapore Airline was $1600 plus (?) tax. Singapore also flys to Chennai so would expect it around the same price -- probably requires an overnight in Singapore (at airline expense) as the YVR-SIN leg arrives around mid-night. Your deal at $1700 sounds ok as long as it is with an airline that goes direct rather than having to go through Seattle or LA.

edit: Might as well give these people a plug; I have been dealing with them for years as they always have had the best prices in BC for Korean airline tickets and they are now a major Singapore Airline discounter as well and their prices are as good or better than anyone else that I have checked with in Vancouver. They are long-established and have been reliable and easy to deal with for me so can recommend them wholeheartedly.
