Talked to the agent today. He says he has sent all the info to the Air India office to find out, but has not heard back from them yet. Told us to contact him back on Tuesday. Not sure if this is just a delaying tactic or not.

It happened to me as well !

Once I was returning from India to Finland via Frankfurt. I wanted to a reschedule in my travel date and I approached the AI office at Kochi. Alas, my return ticket was cancelled and re-booked to another date! I had no clue how it happened. And on the new date there was no AI flights to Frankfurt ! Fault with the travel agent, I thought, but now it appears as normal 'AI way'

Are these normal, printed tickets? If so, I don't understand why your parents had to phone to confirm them anyway. What would have happened if they had just turned up at the check-in, ticket in hand? Personally, I would still do that - sounds like AI have made a huge error here.

These are normal printed tickets.. They are pretty cautious by nature-hence they called up earlier

what a nightmare. i dont understand how a travel agent has the authority to cancel a ticket - unless this is a scam and it is reported stolen.

this is yet another reason india cannot move forward, everything in india, surrounding and involving india becomes a chore. holidays become work.

i have no lie more than 750k ff miles over my lifetime - maybe more (some were bonus admittedly). i have never ever heard of such a thing.

knowing this and the addl posts i will never ever fly ai again.

i knew i was on a crap airline when flying bkk-del am indian princess was painting her toe nails in the closed cabin with her feet on the seats. when i complained she rolled her eyes and went on her way. i complained to the attendant - she did nothing until i said i still had cellphone communication and will call the police that toxic chemicals are on baord with her full knowledge. onlly then did she put an end to this madness.

as a forewarning.... if an airline goes bankrupt and you are holding an 'e' ticket youre screwed. but if you have paper... there is something airlines agree to honor each others tickets somehow to get those currently in transit to their points.

really sorry for your parents.

They have a ticket, so they should be able to fly. I would not wait but file a complaint with the FAA immediately. These things take time. But before that I would go to an Ai office and ask them to give you in writing what they have told you on the phone - with the express explanation that you want it for your complaint with the FAA. Just don't give those ticket out of hand...

Just a thought, if the agent bought the ticket through a consolidator and that authority went bankrupt the ticket is worthless. It doesn't matter what images or airline is written on it as it is the property of the consolidator. Learned this the hard way but in the grand Indian fashion (Bollywood) it all came out well in the end. Hope this is not the case here as there is no way for a group you could suss the solution I managed. The agent would certainly know what was happening! Mine called me the night before..
