air india?
air india?
hi, i am traveling to india soon from the u.s. and i've got a few flights (there and back) on air india. it doesn't seem to be a popular airline among travelers, and i was wondering how concerned i should be. i'm okay with problems like delays, bad food, not so good service, but i would worry about safety problems. does anyone use this airline often and would recommend it? also, i leave in less than 2 months for a 4.5 month stay in bangalore, and if anyone has any last minute tips or advice on any subject please let me know
thanks a lot!!
thanks a lot!! haven't flown air india.
if you are paying for your own ticket to bangalore it's possible to save cash by flying into chennai then taking the train to bangalore (5 1/2 hrs i think).
last february when flying lufthansa from portland oregon the difference was around $350 between chennai/bangalore destinations.

I've flown Air India quite a few times. The service has always been good. The only negative has been the maintaining of the bathrooms whilst in flight.

if you have already booked on air-india..and if i say that its the worst airline..then are you going to cancel and rebook your tickets with somebody else?

there are serious technical issues with air india. they had an aircraft that had a tire burst like three times in the last six months..and their fleet is one of the oldest in the world. you may go and nothing may happen..you may go and everything might happen. everyday people are travelling on it
its not like nobody is travelling on it..what do you want to hear? how much do you value your life?
i am thinking of changing my flight if i get enough negative comments (the site where i bought my ticket made a change in my itinerary, so i have the option of cancelling that ticket and getting a refund). im not considering cancelling my trip altogether, id just like to know what to expect.
you shouldnt cancel your trip altogether
..ofcourse not!!..i doubt if you would get a fair sampling here to make that call of changing airlines. additionally, you might want to check sites like these Airline Quality...
imho..i would get that refund!..

having flown air india a few times,
i dont think the safety issue is a matter of major concern. frankly, i would be more concerned flying the budget airlines worldwide, and in india.
the aircrafts are older, the decor and facilities more basic, the crowd more indian, the toilets more messy, (no urine down the aisle so far!) the food sometimes better than some other airlines.
i may not prefer to fly air india, but i wouldnt hesitate to do so.

Good Luck!!
AIR INDIA is quite a joke i have flown with them quite a few time,s and have experiend many delays due to "technical difficulties",refueling pproblems ,i flew with them between thailand and india a coulple of times,s and on leaving bangkok they actually do two security check,s on your lugguage before you board i,m not to sure why they do this as no other airline has to, but i think it,s because of terrorist threats there was a bomb scare on one of there planes flying into calcutta the other day if your going to fly with them i suggest you take a few valium and make a prayer before you board like i do!!!
One thing!! yahoo has recently come up with a new,.
good search engine for cheap flights and it,s simple to use,(choice of airlines included) check it out it,s http://farechase.yahoo.com/

don`t cancel your tickets!!!!!!!!!
I have travelled with air india quite a few times and i must say that there`s no big difference with the other airlines, unless the other airlines offer caviar and champagne!!
But there`s no such a big difference, it was on time , last time it was from Varannasi to Delhi and Delhi Varanasi , it was perfectly ok

sure pantelis. tyre bursts, plane catching fire [at LAX], hydraulic leaks, rubber materials strewn on the runway after an air-india took off, landing without a wheel, a google search will bring this out and this happened in the last one year. add to the numerous technical difficulties..
the fleet of air-india is more than 15-18 years old. add to its a governmental organization and unions and what not...pathetic customer service...no way.
captain, the safety issue is a major concern for me. my life is worth a lot to me..thank you..atleast till i see a pink floyd reunion concert live!
get that refund kait and switch to some other airline....unless your choices are BIMAN, PIA or some african airline......

change of plan: no refund. i called the place where i bought my ticket, and they said that the itinerary change was too small for me to get a refund...i will still be taking a total of 5 flights with air india. so, i am trying to look to the positive! oh well, nothing shall keep me out of india
I say fly Air India with closed eyes. They fly modern 747-400s between India and US. Some of their planes are ex SingaporeAir and KoreanAirs. They have Personal TVs in the back of the aircraft. Seat pitch is excellent 34" in coach. Think about it, Northwest and BA have 32". The older fleet are actually A310s which fly India - Asia routes.
If you have flown enough already, you will notice that AI has better service. Be prepared to expect some delays. It happens with all the airlines, more so with AI.

Aside from potential technical issues, be sure to check if you will actually FLY Air India! Indeed, your order can be processed by Air India while in fact you will fly on another airline! I have had the case with Air France: all process long (and on the tickets), it was written Air India but we embarked in an Air France aircraft with 100% Air France crew. Be sure to check for the partnerships which could apply in the US (I think it is Continental).
