Air India - Jodhpur to Udaipur: advice please

Hello,

I'm trying to find the quickest and easiest way to get from Jodhpur to Udaipur next March. As it isn't possible to get a direct train I looked at flights and find that the only airline that flies directly is Air India (a mere 40 minute flight).

I've flown with just about every other Indian airline with no more hassle that the occasional delay, but I've only ever heard bad stories about Air India. The only other alternative I can see is to hire a car & driver, but obviously this takes a lot longer (we don't have time for an overnight stop between the two cities) and is going to cost significantly more than the flights.

I could really do with some advice please - is Air India really that bad and, if so, why? Is the road option more feasible than I anticipate? Any advice would be very much appreciated

There is a thread on this subject already. And as for taking Air India on a domestic flight - flying Indian Airlines used to be part of the "India experience". And there may be no direct trains from Jodhpur to Udaipur but travelling by train gives you the chance of travelling metre-gauge on the Marwar-Mavli section - another fast disappearing "India experience".

Good idea. Make sure you start early (dawn) and be done with ranakpur early.
