Unhappy Air fares for NRI'S

Why is it that some Airlines both domestic and International charge more for fares to NRI's than to Indian Nationals.
Any thoughts on the subject?

I have no idea zak but i think its a bloody disgrace.

To fly Mumbai - Delhi with air india its US$68 for a resident and US$220.50 for a NRI

Its not like Im huge and going to take up 3 seats!

It is part of a long-standing tradition in India of charging more to foreigners/non-residents than to locals. Monuments, air fares, some hotels. The dollar rate and the ruppee rate (foreigners must pay in dollars).

It is being eroded with the advent of the budget airlines giving one rate only.

Also the Government has recently said it should end for monuments (but don't hold your breat for the implementation of that...)

That's one viewpoint.

The other is, Hey! All you people are rich; why shouldn't you pay more...

You are absolutely right Nick. There is this feeling amongst the local population in India that Anyone who comes from North America or the UK is bound to have a lot of Rupees in his pocket.
As a UK citizen of Indian origin I am disgusted that foreign visitors (myself included)are treated in this way.

I feel discriminated too. It almost feels like our fellow Indians do not want us to comeback. Saying that, it is definitely true that NRIs have more money in their pockets than average Indians. I like that part. Dollar certainly goes a long way in India.

Seriously, I avoid flying in India for a variety of reasons.
