Air Deccan vs GoAir

Hi all! I have to book a cheap domestic flight for the route Delhi-Chennai, and back from Chennai to Delhi or Bangalore to Delhi for next August.

This is the current status of fares and schedules from the relative websites (I have excluded early morning flights):

Delhi-Chennai:
Air Deccan 20:55-23:25, 2.949 Rp total
GoAir 21:00-23:30, 2.720 Rp total

Chennai-Delhi:
GoAir 16:55-19:25, 2.720 Rp total

Bangalore-Delhi:
Air Deccan 20:35-23:05, 1.999 Rp total

For the first leg, the schedules and fares are almost identical; for the return flight, the time of departure is in favour of GoAir, the price is for Air Deccan (of I will set my itinerary i.a.w. the departure place).

What I would like to know is which one between the two companies is more reliable (GoAir seems more recent, and the Delhi-Chennai route is not yet operative, it will be since 3rd April).

The fares with Indian, Jetairways and Sahara are much higher; can I trust in low cost airlines (I have a good experience with Ryanair in Europe).

Thanks!

Gianni

Air Deccan is relatively old & big as well operator as compared to Go Air.
As adsvertised by Air Deccan they are the no. 1 low cost carrier right now in India. Also they mention that their flights are 90 % on schedule. I think you can rely on Air Deccan.

if u cancel with goai u lose all the money.however if u cancel with air deccan they cut 10% if u cancel 72 hrs before flight departure, and more so forth if later than 72 hrs

Well, I have just made my reservations and printed my e-tickets with Airdeccan, it has been very easy and took no more than 15 minutes!

Thanks for your suggestions!

Always go with the older one than the startup. Unless the startup is significantly cheaper, and you don't mind the chance of delays. Indian airports are f'n boring.

I have travelled Air Deccan many times and although I have no complaints (given the price they charge), the seat on my flight from Bangalore to Delhi, on one of their new Air buses, was extremely cramped.

I don't know how tall yyou are but next time I fly I will find out what the seat pitch is on both the airlines and go with one that offers more legroom.

Yesterday I collected all your opinions in favour of Air Deccan and finally booked... and TODAY I read this post!!!!

Air Deccan Crash

OK, it's not a big disaster... but can I still rely on this air company?

I'm getting nervous too...

I second crvlvr. Air deccan aircrafts are like DTC buses(local buses in delhi) no leg space and extremely cramped.
But look at the brighter side, Go-Air is no better and plus not as realiable as deccan in terms of timely flights etc.

A chap I know was riding his Royal Enfield in Calcutta a few weeks ago when an auto rickshaw crashed into him and broke both his legs.

Should I avoid visiting Calcutta, or should I swap my Royal Enfield for a Hero Honda?

You are absolutely right John! I travel a lot by plane for my job, and I know very well that driving a car in the city traffic is much more dangerous... but when we deal with airplanes there is always something irrational in our evaluations and reactions, due to the unnatural way to move in the middle of nothing with 10.000 meters of air under our feet!!
And, moreover, I got this new just immediately after having received a lot of good opinions about Air Deccan answering to my question: "Is this airline reliable?"... Thanks God I am not superstitious... but it's a very bad coincidence for me!!!
I will fly with Airdeccan, finally... crossing my finger during the whole flights!!

I'm the same about it, I know everything I do every day is not as safe as being in the sky but for me I just think about the fact there is little room for error in a plane, I seem to be getting worse at flying the more I do it, maybe I'm narrowing my chances down I guess, I only saw that news this morning and I actually wish I hadn't put up the post now after some thought but it will surely make me more nervous the next time I fly which is very soon!

Hi

I have been trying for three days to log onto http://www.airdeccan.net/ but it just keeps timing out, is it just me or can others not access the Air Deccan site either?

Regards

Harry
