Agra Airport - FYI
I read numerous posts regarding Agra airport that it doesn't have any flights going in and out of Agra. I saw a bunch of flights for Kingfisher that are going into and out of Agra and was suspicous if that was a mistake. I called the U.S. Reservation office for KingFisher today and they said they don't know about any problems with the airport and the flights should be fine to book.
If anyone else has any other information regarding this, please do share. Thanks. |

Agra airport was in use till a couple of years ago, then scheduled domestic flights stop using the airport, now Kingfisher have just started using the airport again.
That's why you'll read many (older) reports of the airport not being used. (same with Jaisalmer airport)

So Kingfisher has started flying Agra? Well, then it would make sense for others to follow. I wonder why the flights were discontinued in the first place.

The flights used to go Delhi-Agra-Khajuraho, I suppose they weren't making money.
The chances of a new Delhi-Agra-Khajuraho flight are about to decrease, Khajuraho will be connected to the railway network by the end of next month and there is already talk of a train to Agra (to probibly terminate in Delhi). |

Delhi-Agra must not be lucrative sector for the airlines..because the train hardly takes 3 hours and you need similar time by the road. If you chose to fly then you need to leave your hotel/place atleast 2-3 hours in advance of the flight time, and then the flight will hardly come in cruising mode when it would be landing time again.
Secondly there are discussions of making an international Airport in Delhi NCR (Greater Noida) and from their Agra would be connected by a expressway, making it an hours drive. As of now the problem is with clearance, as per the current rules you need to have 2 airports atleast 150 KM apart due to safety reasons, however the new proposed airport is hardly 70 odd kilometers from the current Delhi airport.. |

You are right about leaving early for a flight. Ever heard the Chennai-bangalore crowd crib?
