the obvious choices for names would be to name them after the mods, i.e., once you can get close enough to determine gender. and you'd better start bringing home those Rain Tree lamb chop bones....
and to think that I missed seeing the kittens by only a day! |

Indeed... I have no idea when they arrived, but Mrs N says she put paper in that box not much more than a week ago.
I think we have to take a look at the box, and whether it will serve, tomorrow: it is just a loose top carton, and the comings and goings are making the top cave in. Mum is sweet about protecting her kittens. I think she has some pride in showing them off, but won't let me interfere with the newspapers or the box, so practicalities could be difficult. She seems to be one of those gentle cats that makes her feelings known with a nip, but nothing even approaching a skin-breaking bite. There is no way that this cat is ferral; she is very affectionate and tame. Everyone knows how fickle a cat can be (well, taking charge of their own lives is putting it another way) so maybe there is a nearby family wondering what happened to their kittens .The box is in a passageway. It is not open to the sky, and is gated both ends, but it is still 'outside', and accessible to other creatures who are small enough to get through the gate bars. Its previous occupant (evicted ) was a rat. I wouldn't name cats after people; I don't think it's fair on either. They'll probably end up with silly names. My Poppett just got that name because I used it as her term of endearment and it stuck.

Aren't you the lucky one..........I love cats and there's nothing better than a kitten. I have two now--one named Kasih. I picked that name because it means 'loved one' in Malay and later learned that it was the original name of Varanasi?? The other is named Shiraz after my favorite wine. My previous male, a wonderful cat he was, was called Singha which I understood to be sanskrit for lion.
Wish I was there to play with them. The mom obviously trusts you--I hope she leaves them where they are now. Keep us cat lovers posted -- pun intended. |

They moved out this morning!
They were there up yo about 10.00am (I didn't sleep in the night, and didn't get up until 11.00) and then gone! However, as I type, mum has been here demanding her breakfast: they can't be very far away. |

Congratulations Nick. I didn't think it would be long before a cat found you. But four! Our love to you and Susheela. We will be back in India in three weeks, but North this time.

Nope: it seems I am destined not to be a cat parent here.
They've moved on. |

Mums still around: I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the family.
Anyway, visiting cat is even better than resident cat! |

They are still around.
She's moved them to a sort-of cubbey hole in the building where there is a balcony at a lower hight than the terrace behind it. More private: we won't be able to watch so much of the growing up, but I think they'll be old enough to be out and about in a week or three. If they come out up there, it will be open to the sky, and we do sometimes see birds of prey, which is worrying, as well as our own crows, which tend to chase the prey birds away. |

Congratulations on your family extensions, Nick! As to names - every cat in our family for years got called Boots, so this must be necessary to have a Boots there and I think you said there were three plus Mum, so Boots, Sox, Gloves, and Beanie - last for Mum 'cause she's the head of the family!
