LOL, Nick! Good luck with the proper sized basket - have you names for all your family yet?? I may have missed it if you posted amongst all these numerous posts..Still, it is the Indian way to name after the child is born and not to choose a name beforehand - can take quite a while before the child gets the name - visits to religious persons, consultations with astrologer, debates amongst family members as to whose turn it is to name the baby etc.

Enthu? Mrs N is not here to translate for me

I really wanted to call mum Biryani --- so officially that is her name, bit Mrs N softened it to Rani!

No names for the kits, yet, though, wonder of wonders, a possible home for one! But they are still far from tame, and I don't think they are suitable for a home with a young child in it until they learn a bit more human interaction. The one that is most advanced in this --- he doesn't really like being stroked much, but it doesn't bother him either --- is my favourite

Nice to hear they (at least one anyway) could be off to a good home. New owner will have to give the ones you give away the names. Any leftovers - more food choices! Some suggested before I recollect - Roti, Naan, Dal, Choorma, Korma, Soola, Raita...I like Rani!

Nice name, DB! I have a niece called Makhani and a nephew called Makhana - we all think this is rather funny (they are a brother and a sister) - I think the parents ran out of imagination when the son was born!

Hmmm... nice ideas

Picked up a proper cat carrier from the vet this morning. She told me about a client who started with one female and, after fiver years, had thirty cats !

That isn't going to happen here .

All fingers crossed, please, along with vibes of peace and calm, for an operation tomorrow.

It is a half hour drive to the surgery, but this vet seems like a kind woman, and she appears to consider cats not to be any lesser souls than pedigree barking things!

Just in the same street as our old house .

Perfectly normal in India, but takes quite some explaining when you live in NZ though! As as fellow Kiwi, I'm sure you'd understand the weird looks I used to get when I was calling her.

Curiosity would be aroused and you'd have to explain where the name came from and what it meant. The first few times o.k. but after it would become a bit tedious!

I have thought of "Hello" as a cat name: then I could stand at my door shouting, ...Oh, never mind

And then there's PurrPuss...

Yes Aishah, you're exactly right - lovely to explain a few times, gets a bit dull after that.

Makhani's sister was (still is, she now lives with my ex's family in NZ,and is FAT!) called Mimic. I loved both the cats and both of their names.

We're thinking of getting a cat (or more to the point trying to stop ourselves, as we will be moving countries one day), and Mr DB wants to call the so far non-existent cat Lord Vader! What kind of a cat name is that?!

Excellent name for a cat but it will soon be shortened to Lordy and that will be demeaning for a Lord.

Congrats for becoming one of the cat people ! cats are much smarter than us - now your cat has a provider, caretaker & defender ! I too went through this exercise twice, Pearly (pure white with a black diamond on the forehead and one pure kandom ( wild)!

For a name how about Princess because of the regal way she made you her slave ?

God, its tough being a nurse.

She was spayed this morning, came home still unconscious, and, complete with migraine headache, I sat with her the whole afternoon.

The semi-conscious bit was the worst. Every so often she gives a lurch, but her legs won't support her, and she can't stop her head hitting the floor first.

Actually, no, this bit is the worst. We are supposed to keep her in for five days. I don't think we are going to make even one. She is an outdoor cat, after all. She wants garden!

Anyway, we'll keep her in a few more hours, or the night if we can, at least until she is fully come around again.

Who has the migraine - you or the cat? Can you rig up some fence sort of thing to contain her in a bit of garden? Good luck with it all - you're getting an idea of what it's like to have small children who wake in the middle of the night, or get sick!
