Thanks all.
Had a good night of comfortable sleep (although with many vivid and surreal dreams ) and feel much better today.

Medication can give you those sort of dreams, especially lariam! You're sounding a bit more on the mend, look after yourself and good wishes for quick recovery.

No, I wasn't, and wouldn't, take Larium. It's expensive anyway.
Feeling much better today. Went for a lovely walk in the Theosophical Society Gardens to replenish with sunshine, fresh air and lots of nature. It is full of Spring there! Everything is green, and there are many fresh butterflies; we saw one group who I am sure were 'new-born'. |

Good news, Nick - you're definitely on the mend! And how is the rest of the family?? (Great you have sunshine - you can't believe how cold it is here and cloudy! I have never had weather like this before..)

Yes, I'm fit again now. It's amazing how small the change is between fine and feeling lousy!
We saw a mongoose. It crossed the path near where we were sitting, stopped to look at us, and carried on. Wonderful, magical place; Chennai's oasis of natural peace ![]() |

Be vigilant with the health there Mr Nick (which I'm sure you are), but sounds like your on the mend anyway. Take it easy.

I am not the kitten's friend any longer: I gave them all de-worming syrup yesterday. Strong little things, with sharp claws, too!
Oh well, that's a week of slowly gaining their trust down the drain. Start all over again. Hoping to take mum to the vet this week. Don't suppose she'll be my friend after that. Anyway, she's certainly decided that there's more to life than looking after children, and is quite often out and about now, so I hope we can get her to the vet. Dad's around too. In fact, although he's a big wild bruiser of a tom, not tame at all, he's moved in with the family. Damn. That's five cats. Expecting the grandparents next week. |

Waiting for his next chance at a litter I reckon. Better hit that vet soon!

Oh, I think they're already at it.
![]() Poor old thing, the old tom (although obviously not having such a bad life, I suppose) --- he's really envious of the others being fed, definitely wants in on the relative safety and security of our side passage, but is also quite scared. I've been chasing him away, but gave him a wee snack today. I've no doubt I'll soften. I'm quite circumspect, too: a cat like that can do a lot of damage with tooth and claw. The vet told me they have to be inoculated against Rabies too, and I didn't know cats could carry it. |

a male cat will also go after his own female kittens...inbreeding!
you should grab the tom and get him snipped too! Quote:
when I was at KYM 3 years ago, there were 2 or 3 feral kittens running around. they told us to stay away, don't feed them, but of course people did not listen. one woman got scratched -- they took her (the woman) immediately to the dr. to get rabies shots, they did not want to take any chances.

Bats, I knew about; dogs everybody knows about. I thought it was more species-specific than any warm-blooded animal.
Obviously something I should research more. Thanks for the prod ![]() Scratched? I've already been scratched by the kittens... |

not so much the scratches, but rabies is carried in saliva. so if a stray dog or cat licks you, say on your foot where you have a cut, the saliva can then get inside you.
but they still did not want to take any chances with the scratches. |

Hope your tetanus injection is still valid too, Nick. Scratches and garden soil are lethal - tetanus is quite a thing here. (I think the injections last for around 10 years)
