Taking my dog back home

after almost a year in Pune, it's time to go home. Flying here (from Israel) went OK, no problems at customs bringing her in.

However going out may be different - I am OK for the documentation required back home, but a local vet has told me that I have to have a certificate from the state quarantine officer (???) or my dog will not be let on board - not sure if I am being scammed or not ....

Would love to hear from anyone who has taken a pet OUT of India.

Thanks

Dan

I am in the process of doing it with my two cats *right* now... through petlocation.com ... sadly it's true - there is a government health certificate and they have to see the animals. It's been an immense hassle getting it all sorted out with the agents here... we are hoping it'll happen early next week.

Exporting a dog - how it went...

Just to let all know how it went...

Making a special trip to Bombay - 10 hour round trip plus waiting time - was not an option. So, as usual in India, I paid my way out of it. The rate was $ 70, for which I got a certificate, complete with franked pictures, saying that she was fit to fly, had all her vaccinations, etc etc etc.

However - at the airport - no-one asked to see a thing. Not any airline official, airport official - no-one. Could've taken a rabid tiger on board for all they cared. Handed her over to the baggage handlers in the check-in counter, met her again in oversized luggage back home..
