HI I live in NZ and will move to India. I called every single
airline here and they all tell me that I have to book my dog through a pet transport company. I called around and a one way Christchurch-Delhi is around N$ 1500.00 Its crazy does anybody know of another way? And arriving in Delhi how much do I realy have to pay to get her through immigration? Thanks for your help |

Hi Ursula
That doesn't sound right to me. That sounds like the price it would be if you were sending the pet unaccompanied cargo. If the pet is going on the same flight with you and is too big to go in the cabin, then the airlines would normally just charge an excess baggage charge and it is MUCH cheaper than sending them as freight. |

Normally if the dog flies in the same plane as you as excess baggage there is no need for a pet transport company.
I am not sure but think you need to obtain the NOC when you arrive in India. Somewhere on this forum somebody explained exactly how to go about it. Again, cat and dog import. Taking Dogs and cat to India - lets get some new info here - May 2009 IM member ChrisandCin seems to be the IM authority on NOCs at the moment.

You NEED the NOC BEFORE you arrive in India, DO NOT RISK THIS!
Pets travelling as cargo are going to be charge import duties too (yes this is normal in most countries). I have no idea how they value a dog of no breed but they do. Questions: (I am assuming Singapore airlines is the most direct flight here, let me know if I am wrong) 1. Have you specifically called say Singapore airlines or the airline with the most direct flight and asked if you can book your pet(s) as Excess baggage and said the words excess baggage/luggage ? 2.If they said no you cant do this, its probably a problem at Christchurch, so ask them where is the problem as normally Singapore airlines can take pets as excess baggage, but I know some airports dont allow this. Let us know it will help the forums if you supply some info back. Remember if you go the Singapore route there will be a layover, and Singapore has 2 summers per year, so it can be really hot for the pet if you are there in the hot periods. Airline people are not the most intelligent, so consider a trip to the airport to talk to the airline supervisor in the terminal if you can. I am booking my pets to take them back to the USA, and was told by the first Lufthansa India phone rep that I can only take 1 as excess baggage, so I hung up. I called back and the next person knew the rules and let me book all 3 as excess baggage. But then I had a new problem in that one crate was 5cm too big suddenly (even though the dog traveled here in that crate!), so again I had to hang up and call back, get another person and quote a dimension that was 5cm less...crazy ! Let us know, here how it works out. |
