That is a great story! It really made me smile .

Fantastic that your son has understood that animals are to share love with and that status should not be derived from living creatures. It seems he is well ahead of many adults!

If you could send me the details of the young man in Gurgaon I would be happy to put these on my blog, if he permits me to do so.

Billyshake, you are far braver than me, I'm just too pussy!

Definately say mixed breeds are far smarter, my beautiful desai pup greets me in the morning with a loud yawn that sounds like "hello". The first Indian dog to speak English.

Hi Birds,

I will seek his permisssion, but I have no doubt he would love to be on your blog!
And thsnks for the compliment for my son - he truly has a heart of gold. (Not to be taken as a sign of a perfect kid - far from it - naughty, naughty, and triple naughty)

I love it when dogs make sounds like that. My dog won't bark at me- I guess she thinks it'd be rude. So when she needs to get my attention or wake me up, she makes that guttural loud yawning sound too. It's so funny. Sometimes I sit on the floor and howl until she joins in!

I'd always thought mixed breeds were smarter and healthier too, but I don't think that is always the case. I've had three dogs including my childhood dog and the one I have now, and all three have been mixed breeds. The first two were incredibly intelligent and healthy, but this one, well she's as sweet as can be! But she's had trouble with skin problems and allergies since she was a puppy- they've been worse since we've been in India. And while she is very well-behaved because I spent A LOT of time training her, she just isn't a really smart dog. Some things she simply could never learn, and she tries to attack bubbles on the beach because she thinks they're animals, I'm just happy that she can find endless hours of entertainment in being a little slow.

Still, my dog is super sweet and silly and very playful and I wouldn't trade her for any dog in the world.

Hi Birds,

His email is sharady at gmail dot com.

If anyone is genuineyly interested to help, PM me and I will send you his phone number.

I am rather hoping he joins in this forum and tells us about his latest project.

Nick-H, do not despair about the British. apparently Sharad has a 70 + year British couple in Gurgaon who are trying to adopt a stray too.

Cheers!!

Who said playing dumb isn't smart, I do it all the time! How I wish to be a dog (I am no bitch) and chase bubbles on a beach, sounds like your dog knows how to have fun!

Yup, she's lovely! She chases the bubbles because she thinks they are crabs. When she really sees crabs, she goes nuts. She can chase them for hours when I take her to a spot with lots of crabs. It's the easiest way to get her some exercise.

She also attacks statues and tries to catch birds.

But it was really hard to train her, and I had to give up on the more elaborate tricks like teaching her to bring me her leash or a beer.

A fine, thing, my friend. Fine thing.

On the mutt v. purebred topic, it's generally true that mutts are healthier and somewhat smarter than the latter. The purebreds have been inbred so much for various aesthetic reasons, that they end up like my cousin Andy Lepart who's parents are a tad too related. But the opposite can be true as well; look at those breeds that were bread almost solely for their intelligence like the herding dogs. I've read that Blue Heelers can learn a crazy number of commands -- even more than my cousin Andy...which ain't saying much, but you get the point.

My boxer, Margaret, was such an amazingly sweet and loving dog. But I swear, that damn dog was the stupidest bitch there ever was. She was big and imposing, too, but you could come into my house, beat the hell out of me and take my stuff; the worst you'd get was a wet leg from her nonsensical licking.

Billyshake - I'd love to meet your cousin Andy, but would stop short of adopting him.

You are too funny! LOL!

So folks, please do think about adopting a stray. If you need contact information for the splendid young man who devotes his spare time and money to this cause in Gurgaon, please PM me.
Hi All. This is my first post on this blog. Really appreciate kind words from AwayFromHome. Meeting him and his family was such a pleasure - it was great to find a loving family for the desipup whom we used to call Masakalli. Now her new name is Daisy.

And its great to know what great work Bird is doing in Goa. I wish i can replicate the same out in Gurgaon. On similar lines I know of a Brit couple in their late 60's who work endlessly for the cause of street animals in Gurgaon for last 15 yrs. I call them True Indians - far away from their home but still serving without anything in return.

Incase someone wants to know more about them please write to me at sharady@gmail.com and i will be happy to provide more info.

I don't get it, a bag of mutton biryani? Meat jell-o? Got any pictures of these products?

Me!! Who wants to catch me !.

Thanks AwayFromHome for bringing us in contact with Masakalli!

Welcome Masakalli to India Mike! I am so happy to learn about the good work you are doing in Gurgaon!

I feel for the British couple! . It is all over the world the same world the same; since the recession has started animals and animal welfare organisations are suffering! I will put their appeal out there and on my blog this weekend. Hopefully it will result in some positive action!

By the way, you mention the British couple does not get anything in return but I would not be surprised that when you ask them you will find that they are very satisfied with what they get in return from the animals. Animal's unconditional love is what it makes it all worth doing .

By the way, it sounds like you are doing great work yourself! Keep it up and try to publish/talk about it as much as possible and you will find that the world around you starts to change .

Lets us know about your actions!

Hi Masakalli (wonder what that means?, Birds, Susan and every one else on this thread.

First, no thnaks needed for me or my family

I think it would be great if Masakalli would get in touch with Birds and get this wonderful British couple some exposure and help. He sent me some photos and a write-up that were very inspiring. Hopefully, he is able to share with the rest of the India Mike community.

Susan, we will get in touch soon - apologies, but a lot going on right now! Thanks for your PMs!!!!
