| Lost in Space | Depending on your situation, noise is one of the best deterrents unless your snakes are territorial and breeding etc. Ensure that you keep everything tightly sealed until you need to use them as snakes like places to slither into and sleeping bags left unattended are of great interest and unfortunately fatal to the person getting into them. Make sure that you have long and wise crepe stretch bandages always near by so if you are bitten then you wrap the area as wide as possible to restrict the surface area of the body from functioning normally, this may give you about 20 minutes extra to get medical help. This is an Australian link but still relevant, view the First Aid section. Snake Bites ~ First Aid |

| Mirabai snakes are deaf to airbourne sounds, so making a noise ain't goona drive them away!! Rajesh you'll be pleased to know that snakes really are timid creatures with very little interest in us humans!! I saw a Kitten chase away a 2 meter krate in our back garden in Goa, so try not to worry about it too much!! Most snake bite's to humans happen by complete accident |

| [QUOTE=cyberhippie] Rajesh you'll be pleased to know that snakes really are timid creatures with very little interest in us humans!!" There are a number of snake repellants on the market. I think it's much better to keep them out of your "comfort zone" than to panic and kill them if they wander too close. A lot of people have a fear of snakes that just doesn't respond to logic. http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/snakeaway.htm http://www.amazon.com/Liquid-Fence-Snake/dp/B000FEU7EA Last edited by skell; Sep 21st, 2006 at 03:17.. |

| Skell, sorry you're right perhaps a bit too blase from my good self. Rajesh probably has good reason to ask, but having gotten over SO many fears in India through educating myself, I thought I would pass it on! He he. You're talking to the guy who once couldn't sleep if I knew there was a cockroach in my room!! If repellent is your comfort zone, go for it Rajesh, I wasn't belittling your intentions! Funnily enough a anecdote comes to mind! In the Kumaon there's a tree, that long ago local people would always use for at least one tiny part of the house, as it was thought to keep snakes away! Just as soon as I remember the name.......... |

| 21st Century Freak | a friend of mine...kind of an expert at handling snakes.... carries AVS n of course syringes for emergencies. If trained well in giving the dose one can carry it in his/her outing kit....may be life saving at times. In india if you know someone at a government hospital you can get it at a really cheap rate.... |

| ...works with flies. I poo-pooed the idea when a friend told me, but ever since, I've been showing the door, saying, "this way..." and a surprising number oblige. Not with mosquitoes, though. |
