pet transport FROM India

Does anyone know of animal-transport companies who transport pets (specifically cats) from India to USA? I need to move 5 cats from Shillong, Meghalaya, India (roughly near Calcutta) to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA in August/September.

Also, has anyone any idea about the costs for same?

many thanks,
B. [grendel@heorot.dk]

Haven't read thru these sites thoroughly, but they look as if they might be useful:

For regulations: http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/...s.ctt/pets.pdf

Transport company: http://www.airanimal.com

Hope that helps!

Many thanks. I have contacted airanimal.com - have you (or anyone else here) used them before?

Nope, just did a google search. I only briefly scanned their site, but the one thing that stood out is that they have a no-sedative policy. That might or might not make you happy - people have different feelings on the sedation-during-travel protocol.
One thing that comes immediately to memory re feline sedatives is that ACP (acepromazine), a popular one for cats, can in some cases have the opposite effect and make the cat more excitable.
If you have a trusted vet back in the States, perhaps speak to them about the options before going with a particular company.
There is also a product called Feliway, which is a sythesised version of a feline pheromone, which can relax cats in situations such as travel - you might like to google that.

If you intend to travel with the cats your airline company should be able to tell you all about it. Or even if you don't I guess.
