my street dog, Susan
I didn't even know there was a 'dogs, cats, and langurs' forum...and I'm pretty sure I don't know what a langur is.
Anyway, this is the dog I've fallen in love with. He's a pretty standard looking street dog, but he's so damn sweet I can hardly stand it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg-x-CbQ7uY |

He looks healthy and happy. Good jorb.
Don't get a langur to go with it - wouldn't be pretty in a small apartment. |

Well, he sure looks healthy, Billy! Um, how did he let you know his name is Susan?

Another excellent doggy U Tube from BS. I like this one, a little spicey.
Ya know, I'm still laughing at your other work of art on UT, "hoo pooed" I took care of a pack of dogs for a weekend for a friend, and someone snuck down to the basement.........yeah, someone did it. Each one was questioned. Its not hard to get them to confess. No water boarding. Just a simple question with the right tonal inflection....hoopooed. They rolled right over. |

gonna get a cat
Quote:
I've come to realize I'm going to be in India for many years. I can't bring a dog to work with me so I'd like to get a cat. Should I get one out of the papers, a shelter, or a kitten off the street (would get it shots, of course)? I'm worried an older cat off the streets might not take to litter-boxing -- they're not used to wearing the gloves, and all. Also, when I get a bigger flat with a balcony, I'm hoping to put in a cat/dog door and I'd like to get a mean enough cat who can prowl the night without getting his butt kicked. |

Get a cat, by all means. The street cats will be pretty wild, and, like Feral cats anywhere, may take a long time to get friendly.
Be aware that you may be in for an even bigger emotional rollercoaster with cats. They are not only treated with considerably less respect on the street but are also regularly stolen and killed for eating. A kept-indoors cat is something I don't really approve of. I'd rather cats had a life, even if it does come to a nasty end. When our kittens were growing but still captive, by the way, their mother took to the litter box instantly both for training the kittens and for herself. Like, "Wow! Good idea! That'll save me a couple of trips to the garden ". |

I had the same thought. Being a real tough street dog, I would be very embarrassed being called Susan.

He's an Indian dog. He might know to be embarrassed if he was...well, Priya. Or Seeta or Geeta or Meeta or another female Indian name. Susan's exotic to him.

Tonight on my walk home I ran into Susan and his best friend, Raja, a few blocks from their usual hangout. This was near a nursing school where there were several people standing around. I saw the dogs before they saw me so I yelled at them a few times (of course, they didn't answer because they're both pricks, really) and the people just looked at me like I was a nut. But then I got close enough that the two dogs recognized me and they flipped out and were jumping all over me and I was scratching them, playing with them, etc etc. I absolutely love the way people stare at this exchange. I must look like a madman rolling around with the street dogs. If any of you are ever in Hyd, I'd be happy to introduce you. |
