Moving dogs from Bangalore to Goa Greetings to all, Following the thread on pet problems I noticed there are plenty of people on IndiaMike with experience in travelling with pets. Like many of you I am not very much in favour of putting animals through the stress of travel but on the other hand the fact that it guarantees them a good house is probably the price worth paying (assuming people take care of their pets ).Anyway, getting to the point. Next month I will move from Bangalore to Goa. After living in Bangalore for several years I collected a pack of nine stray dogs. Most were injured in some way when I got them and several still have permanent damage but are not in pain. However it means they can not make a living on the streets anymore. I think it is not fair to give them to the local animal rescue organisations as they already have more animals than adoption houses. So, I have decided to take the dogs with me. I considered moving them by road but a 12 hour journey sounds like hell. Jet Airways can fly the dogs which would take just an hour, the paperwork is not too complicated and it will avoid any trouble/delays one may get crossing the state borders by road. So all together it seems more preferable. However, it will be still stressful for the dogs so my question is what can I do to make it more bearable for them. Should I give them some drugs to make them sleep(y), if so can somebody recommend any? Are there any other precautions I can take? When we arrive in Goa how can we best make sure they get used to their new environment? Also, I will need cages for during the flight. Does anybody happen to know where those are available in Bangalore and how much they are? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello Birds, I haven't said it yet, so: Weclome to IndiaMike ![]() I'm delighted to hear about your canine family. It's so good to hear of and see animals being taken care of like that. I can't offer any practical answers though, I'm afraid. Hopefuly someone will be along soon...

i brought my 15 year old cocker spaniel from london to bangalore by air - she was just fine, no drugs, nothing. i'm sure your nine will be too - it's a much shorter flight. can't remember the name, but there's a huge petshop just off commercial street - they may be able to help (sorry, i don't have their details but shouldn't be too hard to find them - i was told they are the largest pet shop in bangalore - indeed, the place was cavernous - not the best - they didn't have the flea collar i was looking for). hope the dogs enjoy goa!
