Strange that no one wants a white dog. In the US, that is the color dog most people want. Life here is fine now that the health problems are taken care of with my new clean a/c air! Thanks for asking. In another month or so, we should be doing better financially also now that we are settled and finished with all the shockingly expensive setting-up-the-house purchases. I keep thinking I should get involved in something, volunteer with you, teach English, something. But the truth is that I've just hit the ground running with all the things I've always wanted to do that I never had time to do while working. I'm making real progress on guitar, am studying Hindi, have learned some yoga and meditation, endless time to read, I've been studying a lot, writing a little, cooking. It's selfish I guess, but everyday I'm busy all day long. Are you here for good? I don't think you ever told me why you are in Goa. Are you from Goa? |

Good to hear you are doing better now. I know it takes a lot of time to set up in India but it seems you are very doing lots of different and fun things. You should not feel bad about not volunteering. In my opinion you can not do that very well unless you are settled well yourself, so what you are doing makes sense.
With regards to holiday homing your dog, there is a woman near Nerul who looks after dogs but she charges Rs.130 per day! It may be a solution for a short time but that is it. My cat friend does it sometimes but she also charges, Rs.100, at least that money is put back into animal welfare. If you are interested I can give you the numbers. I am not from Goa, not even from India, just from Europe. Been in India for a while, nearly 15 years. Love it but whether it will be forever I don't know, I hope at least for the next five years or so. Lets see.

The lotion says "anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory" and it is called Spectrazole. The fancy sounding ingredients are: clobetasol propionate, ofloxacin and miconazole nitrate. It says it is used for eczematous dermatosis complicated by bacterial and funal infections.
I'm not sure what is working, whether or not it is one thing or the whole combination. The salt water probably helps too. But the improved diet, neem oil and this lotion has certainly taken care of whatever problem she had. I got it from the vet you recommended in Porvorim (She is also on Frontline which is a mild monthly dose of ivermectin. She was on that before we came here, so I know that is not what cleared up her problem.) Thanks a million again! ![]() OH, and please send me the contact info of the people you are referring to who might be interested in dog sitting. |

Thanks for the reply Carla.
I know of Spectrazole. It works okish in a very controlled environment for home dogs (although I think the salt water and good diet has more to do with it), but unfortunately it is no use on strays. For strays we use a nasty smelling stuff called Himax, works slower but they don't tend to like it and flies hate it. Thanks anyway, I am always interested to hear with what people has success. By the way, be careful with Frontline, some dogs get terrible allergic reaction to it, losing all their hair. It is worse than mange to get better. So when you try in on a new dog, use just a tiny bit on the tail to see how the dog reacts. Dog sitter is in Verem (not far from Porvorim) en is named Carolina Anguiar, tel. 0832 2401204. |
